Before I leave Sky Broadband, can anyone help?

For the last month or so, I have experienced painstakingly low broadband speeds. So low, that I can't even at times run speedtest.net, a 3 minute music video on youtube needed to be paused for around 15 minutes before I could play and watch it all - annoying!

The only change I recall of late is the letter I got from Sky wanting to upgrade me from Base to Connect (?! if that's the next one up!) for exceeding usage limits. This was earlier in the year and I did not call them to discuss because in all honesty, I wasn't overly bothered to pay the extra fiver for better broadband - or so I thought.

So I called Sky around 2 weeks ago and the guy did the routine check and found that they were delivering up to 6/7mb speed. So he went on to reconfiguring the line and told me it'd take 10 days for results.

Spoke to them 10 days later. Another fella goes through the whole line test spiel etc and then tells me he wants to reconfigure the line (!!!!) - I ended up telling him how very useful he was to me, he decided to tell me that all reconfiguring was outsourced to another company before and as of that day all reconfiguring was going to be done in-house and hence they may be able to suss out the issues. Asked me to give him an hour.

Called back an hour later after noting no improvements and another guy goes through the routine lark, tries to discount my knowledge on using a broadband service. Tells me serving wirelessly might not be an option for me. The long and short of it was, "there is nothing else I can do". Told guy to downgrade me back to my Base connection as I felt that was the only major change of late. Got me downgraded and miraculously everything is back to normal. The speed is fine....

Until the next day and we're back to square one!

So what's annoying me is, I've used Sky Broadband for over 2 years. Never experienced any issues in terms of speed, Router has never moved from it's position. So why is it all playing up now?

The speed is bearable right now, (during the day!), just did a speed test and got:

I don't want to go through the hassle of changing ISPs but its looking like my options are limited. Came across a link to this forum on another site. Any of you guys got any suggestions?

(sorry for the long winded post!)

      1. You're not on Base;
      2. We need stats from where you're setup now and your test socket

Isn't Base the basic Sky package that comes free with the TV package? I asked Sky to downgrade me back to that (as we had no speed issues on that one)

Router stats: (assuming this is what you need)

      LAN Port
      MAC Address 00:00:00:00:00:00
      IP Address 192.168.0.1
      DHCP On
      IP Subnet Mask 255.255.255.0
      Modem
      ADSL Firmware Version 7.03.01.66
      Modem Status Connected
      DownStream Connection Speed 6336 kbps
      UpStream Connection Speed 480 kbps
      VPI 0
      VCI 38
      Wireless Port
      Name (SSID) SKY00000
      Region Europe
      Channel 11
      Wireless AP enable
      Broadcast Name enable

Tested the socket before getting on to Sky - no issues there.

      Cheers for the replies guys

      DownStream Connection Speed 6336 kbps
Is too high for Base, that would be approx 2000 kbps if it was.

Not really, follow the link I gave and post them from both positions, using only the supplied cables.

Both positions? Supplied cables? I am sorry, you've lost me! I'm not very clued up with this, so you will have to bear with me.
Looked at the link and obtained the following stats:

The cables that came with your router, no extension leads in use on the telephone line. There is something weird going on with your upstream noise margin, we need a set of stats from the test socket too now.

I don't use any extension leads. Router is plugged into spare socket via micro filter. No telephone in use with that socket.
