Thank you for contacting Sky regarding your monthly usage allowance.

On checking your account I can see that you are quite correctly and it was an error at our end and can only apologise for this.

I can assure you that this seldom happens and as long as you continue to check your usage each month and keep on or below your usage allowance of 2GB then we would not automatically change your broadband package.

I hope this helps with your enquiry.

A friend of mine used to work for BT as a high up and they were working years ago to do monitoring of bandwidth use with a tool to check online to see how much you used.

Apparently it didn't work very well and it could give some spectacular stupid numbers.

If you're on max (i.e. unlimited) then the usage policy does not apply and you have unlimited bandwidth.

So Sky are admitting it does happen. We have a monitor that is not reliable and the people who suffer are the customer.

So Sky are admitting it does happen.
All they are admitting is that the email notification warning was wrong, not the usage monitor. The OP's usage monitor showed that 17.5% of the allowance had been used, but the email said 70%. This is a bit different from those whose monitor actually shows they have gone over the limit.

Quite right. Sorry for my misunderstanding.

However the link between the Usage Monitor, advisory emails sent automatically by the system and automatic upgrading of people who haven't exceeded their allowance is a cause for concern.

Re: Email from sky saying I have reached 70%

I think you are quite correct, there are too many reports of the usage monitor over reading. Unfortunately Sky will not accept the readings from a 3rd party monitor, even if you have the figures to give them.
