      Does Sky Limit Your Speed

I have a dispute with a site that gives me a poor download speed and they got back to me telling me, maybe your ISP is blocking it which it isn't, otherwise i wouldn'y be even able to acsess it.
Secondly, they said maybe your ISP is limiting your download speed.
My line speed has been tested over several days by sky and it was stable at 13MB.
I'm lucky if i ever get 1MB download speed from this site ever,so has anyone got any ideas.

Sky don't throttle their LLU service, if you were on Connect I would tell you to run for the hills now. Sounds like the people at the other end have a bandwidth issue but unless you say who the download is from we can't really say.

Re: Does Sky Limit Your Speed

      Hello there

I admit to having similar issues with utorrent, I have tried portforwarding to no success, I am currently downloading a torrent with a downspeed of 25 kps, when I was with Virgin this was over 1mb, not lightening quick, but certainly A LOT quicker than I have now.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Almost forgot I have the sagem modem.

Yeh rapidshare, wasnt sure if i could say or not, they replied with this,
Hello, the speed our customers receive, depends on the connectivity of their InternetProvider to the global Carriers RapidShare.com is directly connected to. In simple terms Carriers are the backbone of the Internet, providing the infrastructure for the world wide web (for example deep-seafibre-optic-cables, connecting continents). Speed issues can be caused by: - Limitations by Network Administrators- Settings of Security Software- ISP limitations or bottlenecks- Browser settings (Cookies/Cache handling) Unfortunately these points can not be supported by RapidShare.com

Utorrent issue /might/ be down to uTP issues, depends if you're using private trackers.

Maybe there is a misunderstanding about speeds here. If you are syncing at 13Megabits per second, allowing for overheads, your actual download rate will be about 1.3 Megabytes per second. If you are downloading at 1 Megabit per second your actual transfer rate would be about 0.12 Megabytes per second.

That said, Rapidshare will always blame the ISP or some other cause, anything but themselves.
