      Re: dlm

You need to phone Sky and get them to manually configure your connection. The rebooting has probably caused DLM to set you too low,

      Re: dlm

right i emailed sky and got this reply.

"DLM was still on your line which I have now suspended. I then configured your line to a downstream speed of 11264 kbps and it is training in at 10179kbps.
Due to your distance from the exchange and the quality of line
entering your property, you will not be able to receive a greater
speed than this. I would like you to monitor this for the next 7 days and inform us if you have any further problems."

since that email when making phone calls the line isn't clear!

      here are my router stats:

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 7015 kbps 750 kbps
Line Attenuation 37 db 20 db
Noise Margin 3 db 8 db

the speed varies everytime i re-sych. the higher the speed the lower the noise margin also the attenuation has gone up??

      Re: dlm

i dont understand why sky said "Due to your distance from the exchange and the quality of line entering your property, you will not be able to receive a greater speed than this." without even checking what the internal wiring situation is. do you connect the router to the socket in the loft via a telephone extension or do you have the router connected to an extension phone socket?

theres your problem, as inconvenient as your master socket location may be that is where your gonna get the speeds. if sky were able to get you a sync speed of 10mb with the router in an extension socket it is likely it will sync higher in the master/test socket.

at the moment your noise margin is dropping below the stable level and you will probably find your broadband intermittent and that the actual throughput speed will be less than 7mb.

you could look into connecting your router in the master socket and getting homeplugs or a decent wireless N router, if your not going to do anything about the setup you should probably ask sky to cap your line to a lower speed.
