      Broadband Keeps Dropping Out

      Hi does anyone else have the same problem as me and know how to fix this.
      Problem is my broadband keeps dropping out and the only way i can get it connected is when i make a phone call. You can here it connecting and as long as you are on the phone its fine but the actual phone line is quality is poor. As soon as i end the call the broadband connection will drop after. Sky have sent me a new Sagem router which worked for a while but now its back to droping out. I dont want to leave Sky but this is becoming a nightmare. Can anyone please help.

      It looks like you have a high resistance fault in your phone line. Call your phone rental provider and tell them you have noises on your line. Don't mention broadband until the engineer comes, then tell him what is happening, if he is any good it will tell him what is wrong.

      Have you tried changing the ADSL filters, this is a common fault they cause.

      If you have then chances are you have a High resistance fault, this is in the external line and basically there is a bad connection in the wire somewhere (usually either the top of the telegraph pole or in the green cabinet). When the phone is used, the extra voltage cleans the joint and then it drops when the voice call is ended.

      Most BT engineers will have come across this by now and should know how to trace it. Can you hear any noise on the voice calls? pick up the phone and press one number and then listen you should only hear a faint hiss.

      If you can hear noise, pops or crackles then you need to report it to whomever you pay your line rental too, if it is BT then do not mention the broadband as this will just confuse things, just report it as a voice problem and then explain the broadband problem to the engineer when he turns up.
