Same story, Different Day. Speed advice please

Good Afternoon fellow forumites.

The Skyuser BB checker says that I should be getting around 2- 4mbs of speed and I am 1.4 miles from the nearest exchange..

I originally had the Router in a normal extension socket, so I moved it to the master socket (now wirelessly connected to the router) and the figures have barely moved.

I am getting

ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 512 kbps 412 kbps
Line Attenuation 52.5 db 29.5 db
Noise Margin 9.6 db 16.5 db

Confirmed the figure with two different speed test websites.

Any ideas

Do you have a Test socket, if so plug into it and post your stats from there.
How to test your ADSL in the Master Socket

Re: Same story, Different Day. Speed advice please

Ok - was already plugged into the master socket so I have now plugged it into the test socket.

When I said I was 1.4 miles from the exchange thats the result the sky BB checker gave me, not my guess.

New results:

ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 511 kbps 412 kbps
Line Attenuation 53.5 db 30.0 db
Noise Margin 7.7 db 19.3 db

Re: Same story, Different Day. Speed advice please

It is unusual to see poorer results in the Test socket than the faceplate. If you have extensions can you check that there is no dial tone at any of them when the master socket faceplate is removed?

Poor results can also be caused by the filter plug making a bad connection in the socket. Work the plug in and out a few times wiggling it at the same time. This can help make a cleaner connection. If you have any, a small squirt of WD40 helps the cleaning process.

Re: Same story, Different Day. Speed advice please

Already checked the dial tones as an additional internal tele line was added a few years ago. However all the other lines in the house are dead (so the line is completley isolated).

I doubt its a physical connection issue as the results are consistent regardless of which soct/microfilter I use

Re: Same story, Different Day. Speed advice please

That only leaves an external line fault, which if your voice line is clear, is difficult to fix, or a faulty router. Do you have another router you could try?
