      adsl and adsl2

Hi whats the diffrence between adsl and adsl 2 ?
If you have broadband via sky and pay bt line rental can you still have the upto 20meg service or are you still restricted to the up to 8 meg service that the bt line can sustain in my case 6.8 meg?

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 7005 kbps 252 kbps
Line Attenuation 19 db 9 db
      Noise Margin 19 db 21db

      will the upgrade happen automatically?
Spoke to to Sky who said BT are responsible for upgrading the speed even though sky provide the broadband.
      Confused
      Thanks

ADSL2+ is used for speeds over 8Mbps, and with your line you should see 16Mbps+ so ADSL2+ will be used on your line. Read the welcome letter that came with Sky and it informs you of a 10-day training period for your line and to not turn it off.

      Re: adsl and adsl2

Read that the letter that came about the 10 day training that was beginning of last month
But when I spoke to sky they say need BT to increase the line speed?
Spoke to BT they say the line speed max is 6.8
Had some wiring issues on line which I resolved
Who is the best contact in sky to speak to get resolved as none has no idea?
If I was on ADSL2+ would the upstream speed on the router stats change as it has always been 252kbps

      Thanks

That is rubbish, BT have nothing to do with Sky broadband, except that BT Openreach maintain the phone lines. Sky upgrade the speed, just by 'throwing a switch', nothing physical is necessary at the exchange unless you are being switched from Connect to LLU..

Phone Sky and ask to be put through to the Customer Solutions Team as DLM has not increased your speed. Don't listen to any rubbish about BT, they have nothing to do with it.

The speed quoted by BT is for their antiquated BTMax system, Sky is much faster.

You are probably on ADSL2+, for some reason your upload has stuck at 252, Sky CST will fix it.

You will have to get back on to them, you have a negative noise margin, even with your very low upload speed. I don't know why this should be stuck at 252. This will slow down your downloading drastically as it will be continually resending due to errors. You will have to hope you can get a clever agent who can balance your download/upload a bit better.
