Do you mean you cannot get the phone to work in the loose socket? If so the plasterer may have damaged the cable. Plasterers trowels can be very sharp.

If you have a Test socket, click the link below, plug a filter into it and see if the phone and broadband will work.

ADSL can work with one leg off but the speech side will not, it will be a loose wire i think. What do you mean by the phone works if you plug directly in? No filter or the test socket?

i mean that the other socket is in another room......... (i dont connect any phones to it)

the phone works in the test socket (if i take the main socket off its behind it) but doesnt work in the normal socket (it has 2 holes 1 for adsl and 1 for phone) - the adsl hole works

      Re: Internet / Phone problem

Have a look at the extension socket. The wires may have been damaged causing a short, which may stop the faceplate in your master working properly. Take the faceplate of the master and remove the wire on terminal 2 at the back of it. Replace the faceplate and see if it works. If it does the wiring to the extension is faulty.

If the phone and broadband work in the Test socket it will be expensive calling out BT.

Sounds like a duff faceplate i'm afraid, if the ADSL works it & the test socket is OK.

      Re: Internet / Phone problem

Yes they can. If it is all working via the test socket it isn't Sky or BT's problem.

      Re: Internet / Phone problem

hi all - right latest update

I have disconnected the orange wire that was in 2........ and now the faceplate is working both phone and ADSL.........

I guess the plasterer has damaged the phone socket in the other room? Any ideas how I can fix it

      Many thanks
