      Broadband constantly disconnecting!

      Im new to this forum but have been following this site for over a year now. I've had Sky BB since it came out and it has been working fine since the past few days. Now it constantly disconnects itself at night and during times like this where the "modem status" will either say negotiating or connecting. The only way I can get a signal is to pick up my home phone and let the dial tone continue for a couple minutes and then the broadband will get a signal. Any ideas whats wrong with it? Sky CS keep telling me to change the filters is that correct or just their way of trying to get me off the phone to them?

      How old is your Modem? The modem may be to old and have packed in.

      its the white one from when it first came out

      The only way I can get a signal is to pick up my home phone and let the dial tone continue for a couple minutes and then the broadband will get a signal.
      This usually indicates a line fault, one where the line resistance is high and it requires the extra power generated by the phone to get the broadband on line. Do you have any noise on your voice line? Plug the phone into the test socket on its own and dial 1 digit. You should hear nothing but a quiet hiss at most.. If you have other noise, report it to your phone rental provider. If it is quiet, phone Sky and tell them you think your line has a fault as it requires the phone to be dialled to get a bb connection.
