Well I had 'fun' last night.

Despite having talked through the problem on Tuesday, I had to jump through tier 1 hoops before being put through to CST. Was waiting in a queue and then got cut off as the telephone network appeared to crash. Rang back straight away and the line was still dead. The crash had the benefit of no queues for T1, so asked to be put through to CST.

'Not a problem bl!p, please be advised there is an eight minute waiting time.'

      'Fine, put me through.'

Phone was answered straight away, had been transferred to the wrong number, so had to explain again about CST and having a ticket etc.

Finally spoke to someone in this country at about 22:00.

He acknowledged that the line was set up for 3.5 meg, it hasn't been capped to be any lower. He was a little surprised how quickly he could ping the router. He actioned a line reset which didn't alter the downstream, still hovering around 1800, but he talked about the SNR's fluctuating wildly whilst he was working.

So a new router is on it's way and if that doesn't help, a possible visit from BT for a health check.

Good job I'm going away this w/e, no Internet is depressing.

      Re: Connected but can't download

      Long overdue update.

Sky sent me a new router (netgear v2) which eventually arrived on Wednesday. Line had been stable anyway since Monday but the new router is syncing slightly faster for upload.

      Taken from master socket

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 3069 kbps 796 kbps
Line Attenuation 58 db 35 db
Noise Margin 12 db 10 db

CST were supposed to call back Thursday evening but didn't but as I'm not having the decreasing connection speed and I can browse / download is it worth following up? The CST bloke capped the line (from 3.5 to 3 meg) in case it was causing the instability but up till the start of the issues the line was operating perfectly at it's peak.

Is there any point asking Sky to uncap for what little gain I'd get or just leave it?

      Cheers

oh and sky email support sorted out the upgrade to unlimited issue - did a better job than phone support

For a potential 30-35% increase in speed it is probably worth asking them to lift the cap a bit.

      Re: Connected but can't download

After a bit of to-ing and fro-ing, now syncing on the master socket with:

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 3581 kbps 764 kbps
Line Attenuation 59 db 35 db
Noise Margin 7 db 11 db

Let's see how stable it is over the next few days!!
