Sky own Easynet, so it would be Sky that have done it if they have.

Honestly over the last 3 and a half years, we have had this question asked so many times. Sky have no reason to block Rapidshare. If I am wrong I will show my backside in Burton's window.

      Re: Are sky blocking rapidshare.com?

I have this intermitent problem and drives me up the wall. I've found a way around this and by replacing the rapidshare.com with the ip address seems to work ....

      ie: link is normally

      replace with

Using a text editor load this file

      c:\windows\system\drivers\etc\hosts

      just add these lines...

      80.239.151.250 rapidshare.com
80.239.151.250 RapidShare: 1-CLICK Web hosting - Easy Filehosting
try using RapidShare: Easy Filehosting instead of RapidShare: Easy Filehosting that seems to work for me on the ODD occasion when rapidshare fails to work.
I have read that simply putting www. in front of rapidshare sometimes works. Many seem to have problems with RS, not just Sky users.
Okay I got a reply from Rapidshare

I am not happy it is being blocked ofc :P but I am happy to say that I don't believe sky is to blame lol

Rapidshare said that too many connections results in a block on their side for 'security reasons'.

If using a download manager try reducing the 'parts' or amount of connections.

I have lowered mine from 10 to 5 and I shall see how this goes for me.
If Sky were going to block RS they would block the domain, the IP, the SSL URL that has been posted and the equivalent sites on different domains.
got this from SendSpace regarding the issues I've been having with it - might be linked...

"We have investigated this matter and thought it was a routing problem.

Unfortunately, we now believe that our website has been incorrectly blocked for UK users by the Internet Watch Foundation, who monitors the websites accessed by UK citizens to prevent access to a list of websites that they consider linked to illegal content.

We are working with them to solve this issue and apologize for the inconvenience caused.

For more information on this you can contact them at:

      Fax: +44 (0) 1223 235 921

Please refer to this link Internet Watch Foundation - Contacts for further details.

We are advising all users to contact their ISP's and contact the above to ask for the removal of sendspace.com from this blacklist.

We in return are going to try everything we can to allow UK users to use our site , all we can do at this time is apologize for any inconvenience caused. "
Just a few different answers etc from prvious threads.

I am not saying for definite Sky are not blocking RS as I have no proof either way. It is more likely to be a routing / peering error than intentional. Like I say I am happy to admit I was wrong if I am proven to be.

edit: It could be similar to this?

Editing the host file definitely works for rapidshare. But it doesn't for megaupload (the site opens but download links don't respond).
BTW. Does this site work for you? http://www.speedtest.net/

      Nope it's dead.

I have a good source of information that "they have started scanning files passing through Rapidshare".
Rapidshare should sue for damages, lot of people will start using other hosts, RS will lose out. Somehow this isn't fair, it's defeats net neutrality.

I use RS as a professional photographer sending images to clients, I'm switching to another file host if this continues, as it's causing severe lag.
      Any recommendations?

I can't be bothered to switch ISP again, but if more hosts get blocked/scanned I definitely will.

      Re: Are sky blocking rapidshare.com?

Speedtest's dead for me too Surely Sky wouldn't start blocking all sorts of stuff just like that would they? And If this was something to do with Sky how would they scan files being pulled through Rapidshare, most of them are compressed in multiple folders and have numbers instead of names, & passwords too? Well the ones I use do anyway.

Same here regarding photography & photo's etc Emmett.

Think I'm going to have to change my speedtest sig too.. That was captured once I signed up for Unlimited. Attenuation & Line noise are still showing the same figures but for some reason I can knock 2Mb off that DL rate What are you doing Sky???

EDIT - As of 12.30am Rapidshare and Speedtest are available again for me (just) They're veeeeeery slow though.

Same. Speedtest and megaupload links started working again. Very slow though.
I guess it gets less busy by this time

Getting the HTTP 500 error for Rapidshare again now though I guess somethings broke somewhere or someone keeps pulling the bloody wire out
