      Re: Are sky blocking rapidshare.com?

It's not just the file sharing websites, as rexon91 listed a forum. It's actually more than just that forum, every forum hosted by ProBoards.com is down for Sky users. They're aware of the issue.

It looks (from what little I've looked at this) to be an issue with Sky's peering with Level 3. Every site that appears down seems to go through Level3 and two Sky servers (px0.bllon.uk.easynet.net & px1.bllon.uk.easynet.net), immediately after that server comes a 'Request timed out'. The tracert then carries on, but we obviously don't see the end website.

Update: Apparently traffic on ports other than 80 works (assuming the site accepts traffic on those ports), so maybe this blocking. Proboards posted a fix by letting people use port 8080. If this is blocking, Sky or the IWF just shot themselves in the foot - severely.

The IP Trick may work, but I do not own or use a Mac so I cannot advise. If you can find a 'host' or 'hosts' file in your system files, you may be able to edit it for the same effect.

I have a feeling on 'nix there is a /etc/hosts file, that may serve your purpose if mac filesystems are laid out similar to 'nix systems. I'm not definite they are, sorry, but the share more in common with it that Windows, so it might be a place to start?

EDIT: wiimii a quick Google search showed up Editing A Mac’s Hosts File | Mac Tricks And Tips - that may help you with it? If you try it, could you tell me if it does or doesn't work, please?

Yeah this isn't a coincidence lol.

The sites commonly used to download illegal material don't work on Sky. =/

      Re: Are sky blocking rapidshare.com?

Hmmm I host and download files legit using some of these sites. Not being able to use them is a breach (in my eyes) of the promise of unlimited downloading!

Will be looking into this and if I am not satisfied I will cancel my SKY broadband and go else where.......

Can I just assume that those using rapidshare etc. are abiding by the Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988?

      Just wondering.

      Re: Are sky blocking rapidshare.com?

Apparently px0.bllon.uk.easynet.net & px1.bllon.uk.easynet.net are proxy servers and are therefore responsible for the error 500s/blocks/timeouts.

It's not a DNS problem as suggested earlier. The problem persists regardless of DNS provider.
