Either way I don't think anyone would accept the blame, and also, we can obviously see the frustration caused.
      Hello,

We have been informed that internet service providers in your country are
currently blocking access to our website.

Unfortunately, we cannot provide a technical solution at the moment. Therefore
we can only suggest you to use a proxy server.

Please be assured that we are doing our best in order to find a solution as
      soon as possible.

      Best regards,

I think proves that theory incorrect as you can see it's the e-mail response that i received from RS ,today as i mailed them asking for an extension of time to my premium account

It was blocked /proxied sometimes it is not possible to get to that site even using https or ssl or hosts ect, sometimes it doesn't get blocked fully

But as of earlier today it is now un filtered or browsable at least, also my isp who also uses the easynet network did yesterday confirm that it was being filtered by easynet so sky/ukonline too

A block is a block, it's not sometimes, if it were blocked, then it would never work.

Even if Sky wanted to block it, then they would block the domain, the https:// version and definitely by any known IP address. Sky have no reason, to block RS

How many people on a 40gb limit could Sky then upgrade to Unlimited by letting them download to their hearts are content? Historically, Sky have never ever bothered about blocking ports, or websites. If Sky have made any errors (as I do not have any proof to support either way) then they would have been rectified.

In over 3 and a half years, the most complaints that have ever been made about a site being blocked, just so happens to be the website, www.rapidshare.com and all along it has been another reason, and not indeed Sky's fault.

Of course RS would say that, they also said in a few posts before,

Just got an email back from RS telling me they know about these recent problems, and that they're working on it
There is no logical reason for Sky to block this website, unless it is on the IWF list.

As also did say, my isp did confirm over the phone that rapidshare.com was being filtered, as it was on the IWF's list

But there are 2 possible reasons for the main page being blocked ,
1, The iwf has provides the isp with incorrect information, because it did not properly check the url ect before adding to it's list

2,It's the way that easynet implement this filtering,(not correctly set up)

so one of them owes us an apology i would say,
This filtering is a hard one to completely understand , the sometimes it works and sometimes it don't (https/ssl ect) but just in the same way the normal http will also work briefly, so i would say that there is some kind of problem with the way the filtering system easynet use or it's the manually input data that causes these issues, but Rapidshare.com yesterday for certain WAS on the IWF list ,and Easynet, our network provider sky/ukonline, was filtering that address, has this has been addmitted by ukonline staff several times
Rapidshare is currently on the IWF list of sites that has hosted child porn and has hence been filtered by us, this is why you cannot get access.
from an e-mail i received from my isp on the matter

      Re: Are sky blocking rapidshare.com?

This is very interesting to follow.

I had a reply back from rapidshare:

"We are monitoring our system constantly and we do not have other customers
with the same problems using our service."

So I emailed them back with a link to this webpage:

"I strongly suggest you read this..........
      Are sky blocking rapidshare.com?
Even if it is not your fault or problem......... there is no point in renewing my subscription to you in the future.
So please be advised, it is in your own interest to sort this out. I can go elsewhere, but you can`t."

The above statement applies to both Sky and Rapidshare.

I absolutely take on board what you are saying and as per the IWF I would also absolutely agree that any ISP should be using that list and filtering the content etc - there's no issue with that.

As for the homepage, that bit just doesn't make sense, unless as you suggest the filtering is to pot at Sky/Easynet/Ukonline or a genuine human error has been made by not inputting the correct URLs from the IWF

If an error had been made on the URLs then the fact that people can get to RS now and it appears to be working, would indicate that the relevant steps have been taken to correct any human error.

No matter what though, and people can disagree with me or not, I do not believe it was done intentionally (if at all) and if this was the case, was a genuine error on the behalf of the person who did the inputting of the IWF filtering / URLs or indeed the list given just had the RS URL on it and no sub domains etc

If it was the IWF that triggered this off, it is reassuring to know that your ISP has acted on it, and stopped any potential people stumbling upon anything unsavoury, for which I applaud them. There's censorship and theres stopping potential people from viewing things that ain't nice.

As I said all along though, I don't believe Sky are guilty of censorship, a cockup or two, yes most definitely.

      Re: Are sky blocking rapidshare.com?

I can now access RS, but for some reason i cant use InternetDownloadManager to download my files. It downloads HTML files instead. before i could highlight a couple of RS links and download with IDM. anyone else having problems with IDM? is there any alternative software that lets you batch download rapidshare links in the present situation?

i believe it has started to do this ever since RS started working again today.

      You could try Jdownloader

      Re: Are sky blocking rapidshare.com?

apart from jdownloader which is a java based ap, (i avoid java based aps as they tend to eat a lot of resource) is there any one else having the same problem with batch downloading now? and if not what download manager are you using?
