Re: Help SamKnows and Ofcom - Monitoring your Broadband Performance

I ran the speedtest firstly, on the 24th Mar but there were problems with it. No matter what browser I used IE8/FF3.5/Opera 10.5 and latest Java, it just wouldnt give me a result, so I sent an email explaining the prob to Samknows on the 25th of March. On the 28th March, I got an email asking me to run it again and this time it worked. I then got the "Congratulations you're in" email on the 8th of April. I received the router on the 12th April and its been plugged in since then.

I was thinking of applying for this but I decided against it because I was going through DLM at the time. Now its finished, is it too late to apply?

Re: Help SamKnows and Ofcom - Monitoring your Broadband Performance

I was thinking of applying, the thing that puts me off is whether the scheduled tests ( I guess they must be a download of some kind ) would have an effect if I was playing a game at the time. I'm guessing it would but if the download can be scheduled to take place when I'm not playing then if needed I would be willing to help out.

The tests are done when the connection is not in use by yourself. The wireless part of the router is even set up to detect any wireless connection which may be in use , these do not pass through the router as the ethernet does, and delay the test until it goes offline.

Re: Help SamKnows and Ofcom - Monitoring your Broadband Performance

      From the Samknows site:
Will this slow down my connection at all?

No. The tests are designed to be non-intrusive. The vast majority of the tests that take place throughout the day are very minor and would have no effect on normal Internet activity.
Speed tests are obviously more intensive, but before running these, the units will check how busy your wired and wireless networks are. If they are transferring more than 20KB/s traffic to the Internet for more than 30 seconds then the tests will be deferred for 10 minutes and then the process is attempted again
Im a gamer, currently playing BFBC2 and havent noticed the testing being detrimental to it, apart from the games own bad coding
