      help with router please

Hi, i just brought something like this Alfa 9dBi WiFi Booster RP-TNC High-Gain Screw-On: Amazon.co.uk: Electronics & Photo but not the exact product. I got an RP SMA one that works with dsl 2740b but the problem is that i don't notice any gain in wireless strength after getting this. I still get 2 bars from the room im situated in with the laptop. Have i installed it wrong? All i did was screw it into the aerial bit. One of my aerials broke so my 2740b only had 2 aerials which gave 2 bar strength in my room so now with an addition of this much more powerful aerial why is the strength the same?

      Thanks

      That's wireless for you.

No matter how big the aerial is, it still needs a good signal to send it out, you may be better increasing the aerial in the receiver or better still get some homeplugs.
