Sky broadband speed wrong even sky are baffled

Ive spent many an hour on the phone to sky lately & they are as confused as I am
Im on the 20mb package but my speeds never reach more than 7mb
fairplay to the tech team @ sky they tried everything & dont know why my speeds are not higher

there are no faults on my phone line they have also decreased & increased my BB speed which I was surprised was quite easy

      here are my router stats
      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 18012 kbps 1190 kbps
Line Attenuation 23.0 db 10.7 db
Noise Margin 7.6 db 7.1 db

      Any ideas?

      Thanks in adavnce

Just a quick question, how are you connecting to the router? Wireless or lan?

If it's wireless what speed is the wireless card?

This is a throughput issue your adsl speeds are spot on for your attenuation.

What operating system have you got on the Laptop, and what tests are you doing to conclude your download is only 7mb.

Something else I'd have them check, and this is old school, is the bins...there was an issue with LAMA a while back where although you'd change the line code to adsl2+ the end bins would stay at 255 as opposed to 511 and I've seen this half a throughput.

The issue you've got is finding someone with PuTTY access as this hasn't been given the the new CST agents...

Would it be worth emailing sky to ask them to check this?

Thanks for all your help so far guys

Right so both PC's are as slow as each other?, just in case
its worth running this program on the XP PC and run a few more
      speed tests over Ethernet
      SpeedGuide.net :: TCP Optimizer / Downloads

But if its also affecting a vista machine which shouldn't really need any
TCP optimising, then I would tend to agree with Isitme that its Sky connection settings or
      maybe the router itself.

It wasn't me that said it, it was IWNTE, formerly known as IANTE who did, but I agree, dodgy settings, dodgy exchange card or dodgy router.

Getting a bit paranoid I bench tested my pc & laptop & updated all the drivers again & reset the tcp settings everthing is back to default just in case it was something silly but still no change

The tech@ sky said he's going to call me back either tonite or tomorrow
so I'll let you guys know what happends but my money is on the router
