Speeds with Sky Max - slightly odd but may be normal?

I upgraded to Max/Unlimited and my line eventually ended up stablising at around 17021mbps (it did sync higher but I suspect it wasn't all that stable - my noise creeps below 7 at busier times so I'm happy with 17021).

Now I make 17021mbps = 2.1Mb/sec and whilst I don't expect to get all of that, the most I seem able to get is around 1.7/1.8Mb/sec - is that normal??

That sort of ties up with what speed tests report (typically between high 13s and nid 14s) - which is 1.7/1.8Mb/sec ofc.

I'd assumed the shortfall between the sync and actual speeds was normal until I tested someone's TalkTalk line today and found they were getting almost all of the speed their router reported (12000mbps = 1.5Mb/sec and they get 1.4Mb/sec)??

Sorry if I get the terminology wrong - but I think you get the idea (I'm dropping almost 15% of my sync speed in 'real' speed - is that normal)?

p.s. Netgear 834GT on it's last legs but reluctant to replace it as I've been told the Sagem prob won't hold sync as well on this line?

      17201kbps / 8 = 2150KB/sec (2.1MB/sec) so it's normal...

You will normal get 85-90% of you sync speed due to overheads. Your 17000kbps will give you an actual speed of 14400 to 15300, a data transfer rate of 1.75 to 1.82Mb. which is what you are getting.

I can't explain the TalkTalk sync/speed unless the sync rate is shown less overheads, but I don't see how this could be.

Yeah the TalkTalk thing was odd - I think the line is still training as the speed is creeping up, but it definately got a bigger % of it.

I can't really complain about 1.7Mb/sec tho - it's more than enough really
