      Slow sync speed

      Hi all,

I've had Sky Everyday broadband for six weeks now. In the first week I was getting speeds of 1.5Mbit/s which soon dropped to about 200kbit/s. Then I started suffering disconnects. I 'phoned Sky and they sent out an Openreach engineer who changed the line going from my master socket to the cabinet. This improved the attenuation and increased the noise margin. That was about 10 days ago now.

My connection is now stable but I still only get a downstream speed of 512 kbit/s and the fairly high noise margin seems to suggest that more is possible.

I've got the Sagem router and I'm about 4Km from the exchange. According to the Openreeach chap some of the wiring is aluminium which (along with the distance) could explain my somewhat poor attenuation. I have no extension wiring, the router is attached to the master socket, and plugging it into the test socket doesn't improve my stats.

Is there anything I can do to increase the downstream speed? I thought they might improve with time (I've restarted the router) but they didn't.

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 512 kbps 768 kbps
Line Attenuation 63.5 db 31.5 db
Noise Margin 13.4 db 6.0 db

      Many thanks!

You need to speak to Sky and get them to remove the cap, also get them to check you are on G.dmt profile as it is better with long lines like yours.

He is on g.dmt. But, yes, the line needs uncapped by sky who seem to have left it capped before sending out BTO.
