      Question Slow speed

Can anyone explain to me how my internet went from just over 2 meg DL to 0.2 Meg DL?

I have checked all cabling and i even had someone come out and check it and they said all the cabling is in order. Im not too clever about the Routers so im not sure if that is the problem but i would really like it to stop happening.

      Re: Slow speed

Attenuation, speed and noise margin, the rest will tell us little. Although
      DownStream Connection Speed 11257
      UpStream Connection Speed 924
would say you are connected to the line at 11Mb. Are you on wireless?

      Re: Slow speed

Yes im on a wireless connection using a belkin 54Mbps wireless networking adapter. I just dont understand why it plummets at like half 4 in the afternoon. Im content with a low bandwidth of like 3-4meg but 0.23.. thats just ridiculous.

      Firmware Version 1.9Sky
      ADSL Port
      MAC Address ---
      IP Address ---
      Network Type ---
      IP Subnet Mask ---
      Gateway IP Address ---
      Domain Name Server ---
      ---
      LAN Port
      MAC Address ---
      IP Address ---
      DHCP On
      IP Subnet Mask ---
      Modem
      ADSL Firmware Version ----
      Modem Status Connected
      DownStream Connection Speed 4096 kbps
      UpStream Connection Speed 448 kbps
      VPI 0
      VCI 38
      Wireless Port
      Name (SSID) ----
      Region Europe
      Channel 6
      Wireless AP enable
      Broadcast Name enable

It would appear my Downstream has plummeted from 11meg to 4 meg.

      CallumFay
Hi I am sorry to be the bearer of bad news.
      UpStream Connection Speed 448 kbps
The 448kbps shows you are not on Sky unlimited But Sky Connect which is a Bt re-badged max product is your exchange Port Glasgow Harelaw or Port Glasgow Newark you can see on link that there is no LLU at the exchanges SamKnows Broadband - Availability - Exchange Search Sky connect is Traffic Managed from 5pm till Midnight.
But if that is not your exchange we need Router stats as PaulSky shows in his post

      Re: Slow speed

To get the best from your wireless you need to change channels on the router, it may just be that someone nearby is on wireless on that Channel too.
Netstumbler will show you who is on what channel in your area.
Steve, he cannot be on Connect if his first set of stats show 11Mb down?
Callum we need a proper set of stats as something is obviously wrong somewhere, it may just be a set up error that is causing this. What is plugged into your tel line, where does it plug in and are you sure that the filter is the first thing plugged into any socket in use?

      Re: Slow speed

Speed drops at 4.30, could be next doors kids coming in from school, firing up there wifi PCs and interfering with your signal.

Download Inssider from the link below and use it to discover the channels in use in your area. Do this at the time your connection slows down and set your channel to one as far from those in use as possible.

That is not your only problem, so post your stats. Find out how by clicking here - How to get your router statistics

      Re: Slow speed

The telephone line i use is the front panel right next to my front door which is the first line of the telephone cabling entry. I have a wired PC to the router and a laptop and a Xbox 360 all connected to it, however not all of them are on at the same time for example i usually turn of the xbox when on the pc and vice versa.

      Router stats:

      Firmware Version 1.9Sky

      ADSL Port
      MAC Address 00:22:3f:57:6d:c9
      IP Address 90---
      Network Type PPPoA
      IP Subnet Mask 255.255.255.255
      Gateway IP Address 89.---
      Domain Name Server 90.---
      90---

      LAN Port

      MAC Address 00:2-----
      IP Address 192------
      DHCP On
      IP Subnet Mask 255.255.255.0

      Modem

      ADSL Firmware Version 7.03.01.66
      Modem Status Connected
      DownStream Connection Speed 8756 kbps
      UpStream Connection Speed 448 kbps
      VPI 0
      VCI 38

      Wireless Port

      Name (SSID) SKY---
      Region Europe
      Channel 6
      Wireless AP enable
      Broadcast Name enable

Thats my Router stats copy and pasted from the Router stats page obviously hidiny my IP address and so on for obvious reasons. My next door neighbors are on a separate phone line because i stay in a corner house and they are on a new street and have another phone line which they connect to for that street where as i am on this separate one so when they connect it should have no effect on me and they only have one laptop which connects wirelessly.
