Call sky before the payment date and explain, they may be able to put your payment back a couple of days. If you tell them they don't get so angry

Re: do sky take payment out if not enough funds are in the bank

Not quite true Paul and very scaremongering.

If your bank has an overdraft facility then the bank will pay and the bank will then charge you as per their overdraft charging rules.

If you don't have a overdraft facility, then the bank will return it to Sky with a message of 'Refer to Payer'.

I suggest you read the very useful info on the sky help centre re failed premiums and one-off payments:

      Sky.com - Sky Help Centre>Account & Billing

To make a one-off payment through your Sky box:
      1. Press interactive on your Sky remote control.
      2. Press 1 (one) to select Sky Active from the interactive menu.
      3. Highlight My Sky Account on the Sky Active homepage - you can use the up/down arrows to move through the menu. Press select.
      4. On the next menu, highlight Manage my account. Press select.
      5. You will see the "Welcome to your Sky Statement service" splash screen. To make a payment, press select to connect online at a freephone rate.
      6. Enter your viewing card PIN and payment details when prompted.

What happens if my payment is late?
If your payment is not received by the due date your account will be considered overdue and you may be charged a late payment fee. Remember that the outstanding balance shown on your bill is due in full each month. If your payment is substantially overdue, your Sky service may be downgraded or disconnected.

If you are having trouble meeting payments, please get in touch with Sky Customer Services to discuss your account - you'll find telephone numbers and other details on our Contact Us page.

If you have internet banking you can move the money over today and although it will count as being moved tomorrow it should cover the DD.

Or phone Sky and stick the money on your credit card.

Or race into the bank tomorrow and stick some money in.

      Or all of the above.

As you have realised there is an error you have time to get it sorted out.

Re: do sky take payment out if not enough funds are in the bank

If it helps, Sky normally debit my account on the 26th of the month, yet it should be 25th. It is nearly always never on the correct date.

I guess it all depends on when Sky send the DD tapes to the bank. Even if it bounces, just ring Sky and pay by card if possible, that way you shouldn't have any issues with them suspending your account.

You maybe lucky though and Sky won't debit it tomorrow but ask your bank for the money on Tuesday.

If the DD is due on Monday that may be too late. My bank usually processes Monday payments overnight, the previous Friday. If I look on internet banking on the weekend, they are there but dated for the Monday.
