Is this the best speed I'm going to get?

      Hi Guys

I migrated to Sky BB Unltd mid-December 2009 because of the 6 months free deal that was offered.

Whilst I'm not expecting anything near the 20Mb limit should I be getting better than 4Mb? I read about the 10 days line testing thing and everytime I checked the broadband service details for 20 days it said no line testing in progress. It now says that line testing has finished on 17/01/2010 and speed set to 4.0Mb.

Is this all my line can take or could I do better?

      Master socket stats:

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 4093 kbps 736 kbps
Line Attenuation 44 db 26 db
Noise Margin 15 db 9 db

      Test socket stats:

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 4093 kbps 792 kbps
Line Attenuation 45 db 26 db
Noise Margin 17 db 11 db

The noise margin can fluctuate between 14 and 18. Is this normal?

      What do you guys think?

      Martin

      hi
yeah i think its normal mine goes between 7 and 13

you should be getting around 8Mb with those stats are nearly identical to mine but i only get the same as you 4093kbps they said thats all the line in my area can get
have might be the same to you if not sure about it just give them a ring and ask whats the highest you can get
personnally i would love 8Mb but that doesnt seem to be happening
      wheres your local exchange?

      Hi Pugwash

Local exchange is Herne Bay and about 1 mile away so I know I'm not going to get high speeds.

I'm usually connected using a long extension cable to the main computer upstairs but the stats aren't that different to what I posted yesterday when I used a laptop wired in with the router next to the master socket.

Also removed the ring wire last week from master socket so maybe I could squeeze a bit more from the line if I rang Sky up. The noise margin went up about 4db after I did that. Do I need to do that at every extension socket in the house or just the master?

It looks like DLM may not have kicked in on your line. Phone Sky and ask them to configure it manually as DLM has left you with a low speed.

You only need to disconnect the ring wire at the master. It is then a 'dead' wire and can't effect your broadband.
