Sky have today advised me that the best speed I should expect is about 3800kbps as I am about 3.4km from the exchange so obviously the distance is a big issue.

Just had a look at that filtered faceplate. Is rewiring the 2 extra sockets to it a big job?

Fitting it is easy, it is just a case of taking the wires off the old faceplate and fitting them on the new one. Order a cheap disposable IDC tool when you order the plate.

If you have a shortish plug in extension, you could plug the filter into the Test socket, plug the extension into it, then plug the faceplate into the extension. Not the tidiest, but it would work as a temporary solution. You would not need filters on the extension sockets.

      Re: Insanely slow speeds

Finally got my broadband up to 3776 kbps download. This is with the router plugged into the test socket. Going to get one of the filtered plates as soon as I can because my Sky+ box is currently disconnected (its on one of the sockets running as an extension from the normal BT master socket.

Thanks to everyone for your help and advice in getting it sorted.
