Broadband cut off due to spam

My sister has had her broadband cut off by Sky who are saying that spam e-mail has been sent from her IP address and that she must re-format her computer before they will switch it back on.

The problem is, there are 3 computers in the household, all of which have anti-virus software - is there any way of finding out which computer or e-mail account the messages came from so that she doesn't have to re-format 3 computers?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

I would also bet on it being AVG, especially if it is not the very latest version. I have, just today, cleaned up a friends machine using AVG8.5, it had let in the Personal Security virus.

Download and run Malwarebytes, it will find and remove most nasties.
      |MG| Malwarebytes Anti-Malware 1.44 Download

Remove AVG, download Microsoft Security Essentials and install that. It is about the best free offering going at the moment.

Remember that any security is only as good as the person using it, if it gives a warning and you over-ride it, it can't protect you.

You can also try a check with netstat, open the email client and one browser, open a Command Prompt and type netstsat /b. This will show everything that is using the connection, identify them all.

Yes, apologies I did mean to say AVG!

      Thanks for the advice.

Apparently Sky have said it was a botnet.

Have already run the anti-viruses suggested above on 2 out of the 3 computers and no viruses were found. Would running these detect any botnet present, or would you have to re-format the computers for this?
