A couple of questions after new activation.

I have just moved house and was re-activated yesterday . Which has raised a couple of questions , the socket is a standard one piece socket with two connection points. I wipped the front of last night to check if the ring wire was connected. I found a white wire connected to 5 and a orange wire connected to 2 and a sea of green and black unconnected wires bundled into the socket. Is this connection correct , BT have only recently come to put the line in and charged me 124.99 for the privelige. The reason i was looking was that i am a liitle concerned with stats .

Connection speed 4095 kbps 510 kbps
      Line attenuation 32db 17.9db
      Noise Margin 15.1 db 20db

And what further confused was that after checking Speedtest the download speed was 1110 kbps !!
I know there is ten days of dlm to come , but should i be concerned about the wiring and the stats showing. The expected connection speed expected was 6500 kbps.
Any advise would be much appreciated.

Thanks for replying, yes i did the Speedtest wireless. Glad you think the noise on line is not going to be a problem.

better to do speedtests wired to get a true reading...

noise margin shows there's more to come, leave it on and it should go up in the next few days...surprised BT didn't fit an NTE5 socket if it's a new line, though...

Are they both Phone sockets or is one for the phone and one for ADSL? It would be strange if they fitted a double phone socket. If it is, try your stats with just the router/filter plugged into one of the sockets, leave the other empty. With your attenuation, I would expect your speed to be 13-14Mb.

Re: A couple of questions after new activation.

The stats posted were with just the router/filter connected, the sockets are both phone sockets. I was thinking that the lower the noise margin the better, but i take it this is not always the case. I was told the connection would start at 4000kbps and should after dlm finish up around 6500kbps.

Re: A couple of questions after new activation.

The higher the noise margin the better. The default is 6.9dbs, yours will drop to around this as your speed increases.

Ofcom regulations insist that ISP give an expected connection speed and I think this has caused many to vastly under-estimate this, to keep them on the safe side. They have said this is your expected speed and you may be happy with that, however with a good external line you should get double their estimate. If you don't, Sky will be under no obligation to fix it as long as you get the 'estimate'. Very underhand I think.
