No improvement at all ..... they have just doubled the price for a usage i probably dont have any need for. The fact that there is no performance again has pretty much made up my mind.

      1) I will keep the kids TV and scrap the rest of the packages.

      2) Switch over to Talk Talk

      My rough figures show a saving of 46 / month = 552 / year

WOW .... to think I have been spending over 1000 / year on SKY ..... thats money towards a good holiday.

Isnt it disgusting how hard they make it for you to downgrade your TV packages on your online account.

Just out of interest can somone tell me how much they think I should be getting with the stats below.

The have put me onto the Unlimited package and from I have seen all there is is a marginal increase in the upload speed.

What I was suprised about was the big drop in the S/N ratio for this marginal increase?

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 10235 kbps 838 kbps
Line Attenuation 29 db 16 db
Noise Margin 7 db 5 db

You could push out more for your attenuation, based on line quality. Instead of taking the time to bash sky, why don't you post your stats from the test socket (link below) without any extension wires with simply a filter and the short grey dsl cable sky supplied and we'll see if the stats improved. If I had a pound for each time a customer came through to me complaining about sky and how crap it was to find out they were using an extension cable or THEIR premises being the problem, I'd be quite a bit more well off than I am right now.

How to test your ADSL in the Master Socket

In all fairness, though, I can see where you're coming from with the mid-everyday package re-brand, as I was affected by this too and it wasn't exactly a great change.

Re: Is SKY Value for Money?

As I said in OP I have tested in the test socket in the past. There are no extensions so that isnt a factor.

I just think that the lines (BT) are crap; is that not why the SNR is pretty poor?

With that attenuation, i mean being less than a mile from the main city exchange, I thought that I would be positioned for a decent speed and ping.

What I intend doing is getting SKY to uncap it and let me see how it goes. If I can get significantly higher at least I know exactly what is achievable and can use this information to shop around.

In my case, I left Sky BB as I didn't want to pay 15 a month, and I did not want to be forced into getting Sky Talk to have the 10 pm deal. Not because of any performance related issues.

That would seem to be the case if you have no extensions. With a good line you could see 14-16Mb. If you have a bad line it is unlikely any other ISP could give you much more. Apart from cable O2/BE are probably the only ones who could give you a bit more.

Re: Is SKY Value for Money?

Yeah my quest is either to exceed or maintain current performance levels, the latter I am sure being most likely. After that its down to price and tbh SKY have dropped the ball now so as consumers we should let them know what we think. And the only way they listen is when we are out the door taking our 's with us.

TBH I am sick fed up of also seeing all the great new deals for new customers while those of us that have literally spent a fortune over many years are pretty much ****** on. I mean look at airlines .... you get rewarded for loyalty ... why dont other institutions follow suit.

Unfortunately I am up in snowy Aberdeen .... where believe it or not ..... there are no cable companies anymore.

I think its just time I took and deep breath and jumped. Whats the worst that can happen ? ...... save 500
