Slow down on Unlimited.

well this is interesting, i used to get a stable 2.5-2.6mbdown/CONSTANT 768k up (im a longgg way from exchange) on sky unlimited. now i am struggling to break 1.6mbdown and 540k up. BUT i just noticed after using the sky router tool from here that the line mode is now adsl2 whereas it was g.dmt before. so i think sky have just upped me to adsl2 and the line is trying the debate what speed to give or am i wrong. sky site says no line testign in progress though. i know my line was capable of 3.4mb if i push the snr through the floor. but even tryign that now will not increase the speed above 1.6mb

help...

cant handle 1.6 mb much longer like

edit: info from sky router tool at this precise moment :

Downstream Upstream
Sync Rate: 1530 Kbps 657 Kbps
Max Rate: 4532 Kbps 756 Kbps
Attenuation: 57 dB 32.6 dB
SNR Margin: 3.4 dB 8.5 dB
ADSL Mode: ADSL2
Channel: Fast
Average Error Rate: 28.85 CRC Errors/hr

thats with snr forced to 1% apprently. its like its been capped at the moment

Re: Slow down on Unlimited.

I'd suspect even with a change back to g.dmt that your speed wouldn't get back to the 2.6-2.7mb that you had previously. The SNR is way too low, probably causing quite a bit of CRCs (albeit not that many judging by your stats strangely), giving you time-outs, packet loss and appalling throughput.

Plug into your test socket with no extension cables and re-post the stats for comparison.

Also, is that some kind of bug suggesting you're on fastpath?

Re: Slow down on Unlimited.

the snr is low in that stats because i tried forcing it down to 1% using the router tool - the speed doesnt change even on the normal snr (which has rocketed from 6 to 9.5 aswell.) andill pass on the fast part as i havent requested adsl2 nor fastpath - net was working fine up until a few days ago - only noticed speed yesterday.

ill reset the snr edit to normal and repost the stats in a moment, test socket results i shall check out tomorrow as unfortunatly at work shortly . but from previous experiance it didn make much difference

Re: Slow down on Unlimited.

ok new stats with the standard snr margin. (and my error stats were 10/hr even with the super low snr so i dont think my line much at fault)

Downstream Upstream
Sync Rate: 1535 Kbps 606 Kbps
Max Rate: 2852 Kbps 708 Kbps
Attenuation: 57 dB 32.6 dB
SNR Margin: 8.7 dB 8.6 dB
ADSL Mode: ADSL2
Channel: Fast
Average Error Rate: 13.01 CRC Errors/hr

edit: definatly some sort of line check going on because the max rate is now 3020 though connection rate hasnt changed. is this a sign of DLM being active ?

Re: Slow down on Unlimited.

Ask Sky to try your line on G.DMT. ADSL2 is obviously not suiting your line.

Re: Slow down on Unlimited.

im going to let dlm finish as i think it only kicked in few days back and see what happens because the max attainable does climb up over time (was up to about 3400 this morning from 2400 the night before

Re: Slow down on Unlimited.

ok im sick of this now, 1535kbps constant and seems capped as no matter what changes i make to adsl mode (to force router back to gdmt for example) or snr the speed will not increase past its current limit, so im going to call sky tommorw, what is it suggested i say/ask to get my line back to some sembalance of normal

current stats as of about 5 mins ago :

Downstream Upstream
Sync Rate: 1535 Kbps 510 Kbps
Max Rate: 2328 Kbps 612 Kbps
Attenuation: 57.5 dB 32.6 dB
SNR Margin: 7.1 dB 12 dB
ADSL Mode: ADSL2
Channel: Fast
Average Error Rate: 1.68 CRC Errors/hr

had a max rate sitting constant at ~3700kbps down last night also but still only had sync of 1535

Re: Slow down on Unlimited.

The max rate is irrelevant if you don't have the noise margin to sustain it. You need to be moved to G.DMT with Interleaving. The mode and channel you are on are not suiting your line.
