      Internet speeds slowdown

      Hi

About two weeks ago we upgraded our broadband package from the Sky Everyday (Up to 10MB) to the Sky Unlimited (Up to 20MB). When we were on the 10MB package I got maximum download speeds of about 520-530KB/s. Now, instead of increasing, my maximum download speeds seem to have gone down to around 420-430KB/s and I don't understand why? Surely being that we are on the Unlimited package the speeds should have increased to say, 700KB/s or something?

We were with Tiscali broadband before Sky, and on their unlimited package we got around 730KB/s download speeds so I know that our line isn't the problem and that it can support faster speeds.

Does anyone have any idea what could be going on? Do I need to contact Sky about it?

      Thanks for your help.

Hi what you need to do first is your router stats http://www.skyuser.co.uk/forum/view-routerstats.html then if you have a test socket behind the master socket do your router stats from there as well to see if there is any difference between them.

      Re: Internet speeds slowdown

No DLM will just run on your line and adust it according to the noise levels and retrains on your line.

As long as your setup is fine you should get your speeds up to where they should be - Around 7-8mb.

Hi you can also see if DLM is running on your line by going to your My Sky.

Does that mean I am getting about 8MB at the moment or thats what I should be getting?
You can run a speed test at Sky User - Broadband Speed Tester also thinkbroadband :: Broadband Speed Test and Broadband Speed Checker - THE UK's No.1 Broadband Speed Test to see what speed you are getting at the moment remember that speed fluctuates I do all three to see if there is any difference

      Re: Internet speeds slowdown

I have just checked the speeds of the connection using those three links and all are saying I'm getting around 3.5Mbps at the moment. That is quite pathetic considering I'm supposed to be getting 'Up to 20MB'.

How do I know if DLM is running? It doesn't say anything on My Sky. Under the 'Connection Details' section it just says 'We are currently unable to display your broadband connection details', and it has been like that for months now.

Should I contact Sky an ask them about whats going on?

      Thanks.

If you have been connected for over 2 weeks, it looks like DLM may have 'stuck' on your line. Phone Sky and ask them to configure your line manually.

You are getting 'up to 20Mb' your line is too just long to give you anywhere near that speed.

      Re: Internet speeds slowdown

I have just been on the phone to Sky. The guy said he has configured our line to 8MB but our line is only allowing about 4.7MB. When we were with Tiscali on their Unlimited/Max package, about 2 years ago or so, we were getting about 6.5/7MB with download speeds of about 800KB/s so I don't see why the capabilities of the line would change in 2 years considering they have not done any work on the lines where I live. Also, why has our maximum download speed decreased from 530KB/s to about 430KB/s after we UPGRADED the connection, that is ridiculous.

I will probably end up moving to another provider at this rate, as Sky seem incompetent.
