      Question Speed increase?

About 6 months ago I had Sky retrain my connection and managed to squeeze out 5000 kbps and it was totally stable. However 2 months later it dropped down to 4095 kbps which it still is at now. I was wondering if I could get back up to that 5000kbps so I thought I would ask you guys first.

Here are my stats taken at 17:58:

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 4095 kbps 562 kbps
Line Attenuation 53.5 db 35.4 db
Noise Margin 7.7 db 10.0 db

Get the stats from the test socket and post them on here, this will show if the internal wiring is slowing your speed.

      Re: Speed increase?

I'm now at my dads house with the same question again.

His Line Attenuation is 40db and according this post he could get 11800kbps and only gets 2500kbps

Sky router stats (speed, noise, attenuation) explained

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 2431 kbps 604 kbps
Line Attenuation 40.5 db 23.2 db
Noise Margin 7.7 db 16.0 db

Take the stats from the test socket and post back on here, you are looking for an increase in the noise margin.

      Re: Speed increase?

Well that is weird, I thought the main socket normally has wires going into it but there are NONE at all, it just connects to the test socket.

      Stats from the test socket:
      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 2431 kbps 604 kbps
Line Attenuation 40.0 db 23.1 db
Noise Margin 7.9 db 15.4 db
      Stats from the main socket:
      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 2430 kbps 604 kbps
Line Attenuation 40.0 db 23.1 db
Noise Margin 8.6 db 14.5 db

      Re: Speed increase?

There would only be connections to the faceplate if there are extensions wired from it.

How many sockets are in the house? are they all dead when you expose the TEST socket, if not they have been incorrectly wired and may explain the poor sync speed.

      Re: Speed increase?

We only have one socket. My dad lives in a flat which was only built about 5 years ago.

      Re: Speed increase?

Any noise on the voice line? If these stats are from the Test socket, then there is a serious fault somewhere, either with the line or the router. Can you try your router to rule it out? Unfortunately, flats often throw up faults like this and there is little that can be done if the voice line is working OK.
