      Down Stream Connection Speed Dropping

      Hi all,

I have been a Sky unlimited user for over three years. In most of this time, I've had a down stream connection speed between 3000-4000kbps.

Over the past couple of weeks, I've noticed that the connection speed has severely dropped. First it went to ~1000kbps (about a week ago). Now it has dropped to 506kbps which is lower than the upstream connection speed (I have been connecting at exactly this speed for about two days now).

Is anyone experiencing this too? Is there anything I can do to find out the reason for this drop?

My current stats are below, thanks for any guidance in advance.

The line is capped, possibly by DLM. Whether uncapping that will bring it back to where it was previously is anyones' guess, however. Before ringing sky to get it uncapped, I'd advise plugging into your test socket with just a filter and the short light grey sky supplied dsl cable (no extensions) and re-post the stats.

      User05,

thanks for that. Dropped sky an e-mail yesterday as I didn't have a lot of time to ring in. Received a reply this morning, DLM was running on the line but they removed it and told me to reboot the router. The speeds I'm now getting seem more closer to what I was getting before, which I'm happy with.

It is still a poor speed. I would phone up and ask them to try your line on G.DMT. ADSL2+ does not seem to be agreeing with it.

      Tom,
is switching to G.DMT fairly straight forward or should I prepare myself for some downtime? I'm dependent on the Internet to do a lot of my work... What sorts of connection speeds should I be expecting based on the statistics posted above? The MyBroadband page on the sky website states that my line can handle ~3mbps. Finally, I was just curious as to how you knew that I was on ADSL2+ and not G.DMT?

I think it goes on the upstream speed, which shows what mode you are using.

It can be changed to G.DMT while you are on the phone only takes a second.

On G.DMT you should get to the 3Mb and maybe alittle more.

There should not be any downtime at all, maybe a reboot of the router, that's all. Your upload speed looks like ADSL2+ and you should be connecting faster. With your attenuation you should be connecting at between 4 and 5 Mb, more if your line were able to handle ADSL2+.

I think he's already on g.dmt. Usually if you can divide it by 32 and make a whole number, then it'll be on g.dmt.
