      Sudden drop in speed

About 5 months ago we switched from mid to unlimited and up to now everythings been fine, got constant 3mb downstream and around 750 upstream.
However yesterday it all went pear shaped. Router rebooted itself and reconnected at 1.8mb down and 512 up.
      Current stats
      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 1856 kbps 512 kbps
Line Attenuation 53.0 db 30.5 db
Noise Margin 17.4 db 21.0 db
I've also noticed that the attenuation's changed. It was, and always has been 57.5 and my noise margin was usually around 6/7db.
We phoned sky and the guy did some sort of testing at his end, but couldn't pin down the problem, so put us through to higher level tech support. The guy hubby spoke to said there was a half hour wait for support, so hubby explained the problem and asked if someone would ring us back. The guy agreed and gave us an open ticket ref no in case we hadn't heard back in 72 hours.
Anyway to cut long story short, we haven't heard back yet and the problem still persists, so my question is, does anyone have any idea why this could have happened?
Not made any changes to wiring set up etc, phone and router plugged into main socket via filtered faceplate, no other sockets/extensions.

      Re: Sudden drop in speed

You have been capped you need to phone sky and ask them to raise the cap back to where it was before, phone around 10.30pm best time to get through and ask for CST as you have been capped and want it lifted.

Thanks for the quick reply Andy, I'll get hubby to contact them. Any idea why they cap speeds?

They normally don't touch the line but for some reason your speed has been capped, maybe DLM did this but that doesn't matter ask for CST and they will sort it.

Also have you ever tried the test socket to see if your stats are improved, if you have any phone extensions you probally will.

      Re: Sudden drop in speed

It's odd that the line dropped and re-synced.
      Possibly DLM (Doubt it).
Maybe someone changed it by accident perhaps?

      Re: Sudden drop in speed

I would have thought they put us through DLM when we first changed over from mid to unlimited? (about 4 months ago) Could be wrong though

Unless suspended DLM is a constant thing. If it sees something it doesn't like it'll run it again...

      Re: Sudden drop in speed

Just a guess but it is possible a fault on your line has been fixed causing DLM to kick in again. If you are certain your attenuation was 57 and has now dropped to 53, there has been some improvement on your line. With a bit of luck your your downstream will increase to 5+Mb and your upstream to around 900kbps. A call to Sky should get it sorted out.

      Re: Sudden drop in speed

Just got off the phone and it's good news. Speed is now back up to more than it was originally and the guy said if we reboot router around 6.30pm it should go up to around 5mb. He didn't say if the line had been capped, but as they fixed it easily, I think it must have been.
      My stats now
      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 4160 kbps 800 kbps
Line Attenuation 53.0 db 30.5 db
Noise Margin 7.4 db 13.0 db

Thanks for all your help, much appreciated
