you need to phone sky.. leave the router in the test socket and call them and get them to check the line, explain the speed you have before and if you in the test socket theres nothing tier 1 can really do to solve the problem so you will be through to cst in no time

you can't be capped with an SNR of 7dB...

      ^^^ What he said.

A line issue could cause errors and increase pings as the data has to be sent again.

Got a letter from sky saying i'd gone over my allowance so they have moved me to the 20mb package for 5 extra each month.
Also got a reply back from sky, saying there is no cap and he connected my line to 3.6mb.

      **** this

Why aren't you listening to the advice being given? You are NOT capped, so I don't understand the 'fcuk this' statement.

No i understand i'm not capped, it's just they have the nerve to charge me 5 extra each month, and im now on a slower connection ! I know it's not entirely their fault as i live quite far from the exchange but it is just really annoying and am thinking about other options such as cable but i heard they are even stricter ?

I have moved from cable internet to sky, im having some problems with line speed etc but they dont seem to cap the internet speed. With cable they perform what they call network management, this used to be for a few hours in the evening but now they do it during the day too. You get better speeds with cable but what good is a 20Mb connection if you can only use after 11pm.

ok, well anything can be better than having 3mb lol. I know it's not skys fault though, as most ISPS wouldnt be able to provide 3500+ kbps down sync for my area.

if i was to get virgin, should i just get the 10mb package as im not sure that i would receive any more than that ?

are you talking about virgin adsl? if your talking about proper cable internet they you can have 50mb as its fibre into there box and coax upto your house, its completely different to adsl, you get what you pay for. ( as long as you download during huge amount between 7am -11pm
