Thumbs down Moved from talktalk to sky broadband... bad move?

      Hey all

I'm new here and im a new sky broadband customer... i have been on nildram & tiscali/talktalk in recent times but now that my parents have sky HD & skytalk etc i thought it would be a good idea to get it all in one and have sky connect broadband too...

now... it was activated yesterday, my rated download speed is 7.5mbit which i have achived yesterday... however...

today, its running like a dog!!! iv run speedtests and im running 0.60mbit down!!! whats going on?!!??! this is insane!!

I escaped talktalk due to there throttling... i did alot of looking around before going for sky and i didn't see anything regarding them throttling... im beginning to think otherwise...

also, my ping in games is INSANE! i regularly play on russian servers which talktalk gave me about 150 - 170 ping which is ok, sky is 200 - 230!!!

am i missing something here? is something wrong?? im an IT technician by trade so i know the workings of broadband etc but... something can't be right here surely? other then me being throttled?!!!!!

my service is Sky connect up to 8mbit (nonLLU exchange )

      help?

sky connect also has traffic management unfortunately, there is a thread dedicated to it (Unofficial) FAQ - Sky Connect Users

if your exchange doesnt have any LLU providers then there is not much you can do ive heard quite a few bad things about talktalks traffic management but if you cant get a LLU service then each provider will give you pretty much the same problem

If you'd researched on here, then you would have known not to touch Sky Connect with a barge pole.

Sky LLU is fantatsic, but Sky Connect (the rebadged BT product) is slated for being oversubscribed and therefore runs like a dog.

Hi you have just answered your question Sky are traffic shaping the connect package or for a lot throttling the problem lack of bandwidth to many connect Customers with little bandwidth and does not look like Sky are going to improve the only speed test that Sky will only except the Bt perfomance speed test the link is below

Re: Moved from talktalk to sky broadband... bad move?

      Hi steve

yeah iv seen some of the posts regarding games, to be honest im ok with that im not much of a gamer my main proplem is the speeds as its a slow down i can actually feel on websites there taking ages to load.

i was on talktalk 1mbit unlimited for 2 quid cheaper then this, i think i should have stayed there! im getting the same speeds but with from what i can see MORE throtting AND a cap....

cn i not cancel this broadband?

if your speeds been poor all day thats different although you mentioned it was running at 7.5mb? maybe you should post up your stats from the router settings page(details in my signature). apart from this i believe there is a 10 day stabilization period after your activation which may be affecting things.

with all that said, your never going to have fast broadband during peak hours on connect.. i believe the cooling off period is 8 days, i dont know which provider is best as far as it goes if you cant get LLU in your exchange or if there is any such thing

You'll be going through connect's training period for 10 days which may be skewing results even more. Even so, mixed with the traffic shaping, if you have LLU at your exchange then head elsewhere.
