Alright, but if I get a speed which isn't great could I call Sky and ask them to just reconfigure it to 20mb? :P

      You can indeed mate.

As the others say, your attenuation is quite low meaning your not far from the exchange, So you should certainly achieve 16-20mbps with no problems.

      Re: What can I expect?

Wouldn't get his hopes up - definitely at least 16Mbps but as to whether you get 20Mbps depends purely on how the Sky LLU equipment reads the line...

Alright thanks for the information guys.

And yeah, I'd be happy with 16mb. But 20mb would be excellent.

      Re: What can I expect?

Alright guys, a bit of a problem here. I recieved my Sky router, quite quick I must say. And even though the connection isn't due till Monday, I plugged it in, see if I can look around the config and have a play. And the internet wasn't working, of course. So I plugged my Orange Livebox back in, and the internet didn't work, at first anyways, now it does. But to my horror, my noise margin has dropped quite significantly. And my attainable download rate (says it on the Livebox config thing, no idea if it's accurate or not) has dropped.

      Noise margin (dB) : 21.9
      Attenuation (dB) : 18.0
Attainable download rate (kbps) : 11520

My attenuation dropped by 0.5 though. :P I'll plug the sky router back in and post router stats from there too, see if that's any better.

EDIT: My Livebox is now reporting the previous stats. However Sky tells me a different story.

      Livebox

      Noise margin (dB) : 24.7
      Attenuation (dB) : 18.5
Attainable download rate (kbps) : 15615

      Sky

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 8063 kbps 605 kbps
Line Attenuation 20.5 db 9.0 db
Noise Margin 22.0 db 27.0 db

Anyone got any ideas? :/ All I want is my 20mb.

EDIT 2: I can confirm that after multiple tests, the Livebox stats now stay roughly the same, maybe 0.1 out sometimes. Sky can vary, my attenuation went to 22db before. :/ But the Livebox stays the same.

      Re: What can I expect?

Routers report the stats in different ways and some are more sensetive than others. You will know when your Sky connection is live because the other one will stop connecting.

      Re: What can I expect?

Remember, you're on an UP TO 20Mbps service and that no way guarantees you 20Mbps...only line I've seen on 20Mbps ish have been single figure attenuations and a few in the low teens...I'm sure there are exceptions but don't expect 20Mbps...

      Same, rarely see 20mbps.
This is why I said 16-20

You can't give false expectations, otherwise customers call with complaints saying they were told lies, bla bla bla.
      It's annoying
