      Hi Guys,

Thanks for your help so far, much appreciated.

I know for a fact that it is the only socket in the flat, so my assumption is that it is the master. There is a fairly large BT box at the ground floor of the building pretty much exactly the same as the attached photo (kindly liberated from work).

I am *again* assuming BT have run a *something* pair cable from the exchange to this box and then fed individual lines to each flat. Are my assumptions correct?

So what are the next steps?

That could be the way although it seems a little unsecure if it is, anyone could piggyback onto a line.

They could have fitted external NTE5 sockets, they are starting to do this more and more for flate etc, that is a little grey box.

Can you get a picture of the box you are refering to?

Did you check what connections were made on the rear of your socket?

I was planning on doing all of that last night, but instead sat and watched in despair as Spurs lost to liverpool playing the worst long ball game ever. Couldn't even pass to each other.

I will get all of the info tonight and post it up.

I think you will find that Liverpool won by playing good football for once, only one point between us now!!!

Possibly, but I don't think this is the right place to talk about the game last night. I am still angry with our one dimensional play, but I digress... (you can PM if you really want to talk about it).

Back on track. Today I e-mailed a business who are located on the second floor of the very same building I live in to see if they would run a speed test on their line. Very kindly, they obliged. See results attached. What the frick...

Images of BT equipment in the building, and behind my faceplate to follow this evening.

As promise, here are the photos of the BT Box(es) on the ground floor, and the best photo I could take of the back of my faceplate.

      Re: ADSL2+ Help?

Ok, the sockets next to the big JB are the master sockets, NTE5 ones.

Can you find the one that does your flat? if so, remove the front and remove any wires NOT in 2&5.

It would also help if there was any way you could plug the router into the TEST sockt which is beneath the faceplate and get the stats from there as these will be the best stats you could achieve.

I must say, security is very poor, it would only take someone with a phone to plug it in here and run upp 1000's worth of bills ringing premium numbers ect.

      Re: ADSL2+ Help?

      Hi Guys,

Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately there does not appear to be one of the NTE5 boxes specifically for our flat. I have highlighted the boxes I presume you mean (Pic2.jpg) and there are only 3 in total, and not one for our flat.

I have also highlighted the area of one of the "JB's" which I think relates to our flat (Pic3.jpg & Pic5.jpg). Is this it, is this all I have as a line? No proper sockets?

I'm sorry I can't be of more help, but I have absolutely no idea how this place is wired up.

      Re: ADSL2+ Help?

This is not an easy thing to do via the net

You should have two cables running from the JB up yo your flat, check the colours at that end and then ensure these are also the same at the other.

Looking at your pictures of the rear of your faceplate in the flat, you seem to have all the cables connected, this is not right unless you have multiple sockets, it wouls be worth removing any of the wires that shouldn't be connected but keep a note of what goes were just in case.
