      Speed and stats based question

      hey all,

long time reader but first time poster, have followed many of your tutorials and guides in the past and always sorted my problem, but one i just cannot seem to get around is the slow speed im experiencing and am after some advice.

Was forced to upgrade to unlimited last week due to the new bandwidth rules, but if anything have experienced speed drops

      stats are as follows:

Port Status TxPkts RxPkts Collisions Tx B/s Rx B/s Up Time
      WAN PPPoA 460499 771419 0 2489 101537 03:05:49
      LAN 10M/100M 5393 0 0 43 0 03:06:37
      WLAN 11M/54M/108M 782128 470678 0 102474 3418 03:06:31

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 2047 kbps 796 kbps
Line Attenuation 47.5 db 24.9 db
Noise Margin 8.7 db 11.0 db

Im on the EMWOLLA exchange roughly 2km from it, have had problems with router in past and wondering if line has been capped due to engineers asking me to reset manually and at mains and finally its plugged into my master socket, which has seen better days and ancient and had to be 'fiddelled' with by the sky engineer when reconnecting as ntl had screwed about with it to get it working for them.

Any suggestions and ideas will be greatly appreciated,

      thanks in advance

Re: Speed and stats based question

it looks like your like is capped at 2mb at the moment and a call to sky may be required, just to ensure you can get the max speed out of your line it would be helpful if we could gather a little info.

did you take those stats with the router in the master socket or an extension socket? is it a direct connection or are there extension cables involved? do you have a filter on each telephone socket that has a device connected(double check sky set top boxes)?

apart from that if you could take your stats from your test socket if you have one and post back the results that would be great: How to test your ADSL in the Master Socket

Re: Speed and stats based question

      Your definately capped.
Your line is also set on line code ADSL2+ (Usually better for shorter lines and faster speeds).
Unfortunately it doesn't always seem to work too well on the longer lines for faster speeds - Usually has the opposite affect.

If you are connected to the MasterSocket, better yet the TestSocket, then you should call sky and see if you can get your line reconfigured.
If your line was set on line code G.Dmt then your attenuation would drop a few dB and this should bump up your SNR allowing more room for speed.

If your attenuation dropped a few dB you should expect speeds of up to 4-5mbps.

      Hope this is enough info

Re: Speed and stats based question

SNR of 8dB isn't hugely capped, test socket would show the true cap level as the SNR should shoot up...

Re: Speed and stats based question

Well that clearly shown that your internal wiring is destroying your speeds.

You need to run the router from the test socket or fit a filtered faceplate then ring Sky, you will see a BIG jump in your speeds when you do
