      Quick question ***Updated***

I just took up the SKY BB and phone package and have unlimited 20meg. BB went live on 29.12

Just wondering if I should be seeing regular changes in the sync on the router stats. So far it has stuck at 4091 kbps DL and 506 kbps UL since day 1. I realise I have to wait the 10 day training period but just wondered.

      Router stats are:
      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 4091 kbps 506 kbps
Line Attenuation 12 db 2 db
Noise Margin 27 db 2147483647 db

I presume the last figure is a mistake?

Previous ISP was UKFSN and was seeing consistent 7000k +

      Any advice appreciated thanks

PS Sorry my first post has to be a question

That figure is either a mistake or you have a problem with your line. Clearly DLM is still running on your line as you have just joined Sky but give them a call to manually configure the line as you have a lot of SNR to spare. Report back with the new stats.

Wait, before you do so, connect the router to test socket and post the router stats, thanks.

Many thanks for the quick reply, much appreciated.

Tried it connected to test socket and then again on normal socket and both times got these stats.

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 4091 kbps 510 kbps
Line Attenuation 12 db 2 db
Noise Margin 31 db 25 db

      Re: Quick question

Yeah, i guess that was a bogus reading. You are under DLM- a process in which sky monitors your line and speeds it up slowly looking for line stability. Try calling them to manually configure your line, you should get the full speed of your package as your line is very short. Just tell them to uncap/manually configure your line.

      Re: Quick question

That upstream readin will show when the router's noise margin goes below zero, it could be that you have a problem with your internal wiring if it is better in the test socket.

If you can, keep it in there during the DLM process.

      2147483647 db
...is not a mistake, this is what the router reports when the noise margin drops to a negative figure. It is most often caused by having dodgy filters or not having them at all. Make sure everything connected to the phone line is running through a filter, including Digi boxes and alarms. If the problem returns, try another filter.

      Re: Quick question

Thaks for the replies fellas. Was away over weekend but back yesterday to find no dial tone, so no incoming or outgoing calls possible. BB still working although still at the 4019kbps and stats showing Noise Margin 31 db 25 db

Anyhoo, called Sky and went through all the tests etc to be told no fault on the line. Engineer came this morning, tested it and showed line as working normally although any phone plugged wouldn't work.

He changed the faceplate on the main socket, retested and still showed as working. Tried yet another phone and sure enough it worked.

After he left, I re tested the other previously non working phones and all were working perfectly.

Have just checked router and stats now show:

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 13307 kbps 807 kbps
Line Attenuation 12 db 2 db
Noise Margin 15 db 7 db

So now have decent BB speed and all phones working.

Thanks again for all help and advice offered.

      Re: Quick question

You should now get aleast 16Mb with those stats and depending on the line maybe 17Mb to 19Mb

      Re: Quick question

Should've also been pointed out that the post by Rahat was incorrect advice about calling to get DLM off was incorrect advice. Sky agents are told NOT to stop it until complete the first run so although you're sorted there's every possibility that agent may get into trouble for doing so. I'm not saying it's your fault, just making you aware that encouraging process breeches isn't good for the tech employees...

And yeah, should still see more...
