      Sky Unlimited question

Hi guys, I've been on Sky Unlimited now for a couple of months, and am a bit dissapointed with my speeds. What I would like to know from you experts out there is what I should be expecting. (Previously when with O2 I was getting 20-25% faster speeds than Sky).

Firstly here are my stats plugged directly into the master pre-filtered ADSL socket on the wall: (same results with the main phone unplugged from different socket - microfilter on this by the way)

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 7003 kbps 414 kbps
Line Attenuation 41 db 21 db
Noise Margin 11 db 18 db

Using the Sky User dowload speed test I get:

      5560Kbps download
      345Kbps Upload

What can I expect? Or do you need details of distance from exchange? If so how do I do this?

      Many Thanks in advance
      Belly

Do you have a test socket to plug into? Remove the telephone pre-filter socket from the equation and also this should lead to no dial tone on any other socket on the line.

      Re: Sky Unlimited question

      Paul,
Just pulled the face plate off the pre-filtered master socket, and plugged the router into the test socket.
      Router Details are now:

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 7003 kbps 414 kbps
Line Attenuation 41 db 22 db
Noise Margin 11 db 21 db

Using the Sky User dowload speed test I get:

      5564Kbps download
      343Kbps Upload

      Cheers

      Re: Sky Unlimited question

You aren't getting full speed from your line, might be worth leaving it there and calling sky tech support as you should in theory get about 8Mb if not a bit more as you have a bit of slack on your noise margin

Appreciate that Paul. Thought it may be the case as when I was with O2 I was getting faster.
      Cheers

      Re: Sky Unlimited question

You got 11db downstream SNR which is above the default of 6.9db. So you have a slight cap on the line, give Sky a call and they will sort it out. You should see a sync of 8meg once all of that is done.

      Re: Sky Unlimited question

      Cheers Guys,
But just checked my router stats again and I am getting the following:

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 3754 kbps 414 kbps
Line Attenuation 43 db 22 db
Noise Margin 11 db 17 db

It seems over the last hour or so my connection speed has gone from 7003kbps to 3754kbps. Any ideas? I checked all the stats after putting the faceplate back on and was as before - but now ten minutes later it's this.....I've got no idea!!!

      Re: Sky Unlimited question

Take the faceplate off and try in the test socket again.

Might have fitted the faceplate incorrectly.
