Speed drop off since moving to sky talk?

Not sure if this is a coincidence or not, however I used to sync to my broadband at c16mb, however recently I have only been getting 7mb, my stats are below.
      Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 7003 kbps 797 kbps
Line Attenuation 18 db 8 db
Noise Margin 16 db 16 db

The only thing that I am aware of that has changed, is that I switched my phone line over from BT to Sky talk, as previously I was on Sky Max with a BT line.

Would this have caused my speeds to drop of by over half, or could it be something else?
Unfortunately I can not remember what my other stats were, when I was getting the 16mb.

      Cheers

Is there any noise such as crackling/static on the landline?

Plug into the test socket and re-take the stats for a quick look.

You should be getting more according to your stats but seem to be capped, reboot the router and if your noise margin does not drop to around 7db then you are capped by Sky and will need to ring them.

Many users on the new SVBN network are complaining that the speeds are a few mb slower then before.

Cheers guys, and thanks to the mod for closing my other thread in the speed test section, (thought this topic might get more views in this section so I repeated it).

There is defiantly no static on my line, and I have rebooted the router, so I am going to ring Sky tomorrow, and see what they have to say.

The exchange is no more than 1km from my house (if that) and in the past I have always been fortunate to have great speeds, (and i guess to some I still do) hopefully after a chat with Sky CS I can get back to the speeds I was getting before, I will report back on what happens.

Re: Speed drop off since moving to sky talk?

Well there's no doubt you have a good bit more speed to be pushed out, but syncing in at a stable 16mb is highly debatable from the stats. To save you a bit of time on the phone call, get the router plugged into the test socket (if not already), make sure you're not using any extension cables and just plug a filter with your phone line and sky supplied light grey dsl cable. Should be passed to the guys who can uncap you pretty quick.

Re: Speed drop off since moving to sky talk?

line is quite blatantly capped, which is nothing to do with being on the SVBN, so just give Sky tech a call and they'll sort you out...

Re: Speed drop off since moving to sky talk?

A quick phone call to sky and all sorted. Thanks for the advice about testing the master socket, as this bypassed one of the steps they wanted me to do.

Apparently I had DLM on the line (whatever that is), they said since yesterday, but my speeds have been down for over a month, anyway my new stats are below, very happy with my connection speed now.

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 17654 kbps 1168 kbps
Line Attenuation 19 db 8 db
Noise Margin 7 db 7 db

Re: Speed drop off since moving to sky talk?

DLM is placed on new connection and lines that have been upgraded - IF DLM was running then it should've been left to run but there you go...glad you're sorted

Re: Speed drop off since moving to sky talk?

      Hi there all,

New to the forum and just moved my phone/broadband to Sky from BT.

I live out in the sticks but was used to around 2meg broadband with BT. Since moving I get less than 0.5meg from Sky. Logging into my (Sky) router tells me that I've got just over 2 meg - I smell a rat!

Any suggestions about what's going on would be welcome.

if you're on Connect that's why - between 5-midnight it's throttled to hell...
