LLU = local loop unbundled service. In other words, sky's own equipment and not BT's (the sky connect package is a re-branded BT product so essentially you're on BT's equipment).

Sky LLU (base, everyday and unlimited) is not throttled, but the sky connect package is.

Can I still get this "LLU" even though the unlimited package is not available in my area?

Blocking and throttling are 2 completely different things. No exaggeration, Sky completely blocks Youtube streaming at certain times.

      Re: increase speeds

I've just found out that using a program called "hotspot shield" will bypass the Sky (or google's?) blocking mechanism.

They are not blocking it, it is just that there is not enough bandwidth for it to download so it doesn't work.

Then why does it magically work through Hotspot Shield? Hotspot Shield makes the browsing speed even worse, but the videos on Youtube stream (a little time, but they stream). But If I turn Hotspot Shield off, it's weird, the video doesn't even make an attempt to load (i.e. I just see a black box).

The play arrow doesn't even appear.

      Re: increase speeds

Sky just unblocked me. Normal streaming resumed. Pinpoint precision timing.

they haven't 'unblocked you' - it's gone 12 midnight and now speeds return to normal...they can't unblock a single user...

it'll happen again tonight - it's cause you're on Connect and it's not going to change...

I know all about bandwidth throttling.

But the video should still stream, given time, because you're connection is supposed "throttled" (slowed down) and not "blocked" (.i.e. I should still be able to download).

Hotspot Shield magically makes the videos stream again.

      Re: increase speeds

Hotspot Shield is a VPN-based connection, so all you is connect to them and then use their connection to get content. It's still not Sky unblocking you...if it works, then fine
