      Re: very slow speeds

I'm glad I swapped my broadband provider over to O2 Premier..
      check out this:>

I had a result in excess of 80Mb today but for some reason the result didn't save so I will have to make do with a high score of 59.39Mb
Can anybody explain why I am getting such high speeds??

Because speedtest.net is a joke. You're best just going by your sync speed, via your stats displayed on the router page or if you try the speedtest on this site it should give a more accurate reading.

Edit: Even better - try a transfer on one of the files and check your transfer rate and that'll be your true 'download' speed. http://www.btopenworld.com/speedtest

      Re: very slow speeds

finally gotten around to doing the BT speedest, since i am back down from uni for the weekend.

here are the not suprising results lol:

      Download Speed during the test:
      112kbps

      Acceptable range:
      600-7150kbps

      DSL connection Rate:
      7616 kbps (down stream)
      448 (up stream)

      IP profile:
      6500kbps

I think i am going to have to call them up tomorrow and see what the hell is going on with this connection, if they can't resolve it then somehow i am going to have to find a way of getting my mum out of this contract without a penalty fee.

      Re: very slow speeds

Ask for your MAC code and tell them that the service is not useable or as described in their T&C's, you will be allowed to move. They cannot refuse to give you your MAC code within 5 days.

      Re: very slow speeds

Thanks i will check it out, i rung up sky yesterday to see whats going on, the first guy i spoke to i explained to him what was going on and he was in disbelief, i did ask him however since the service is not usable will i be able to get rid of the penalty fee, he said maybe but it depends on what is causing the problem, anyway he passed me onto broadband techinical support, they thought it was a computer issue, i then explained that it wasn't a issue with the computer since this is occuring on all of the desktops including the one which i bring down from uni sometimes, he couldnt figure out the problem and passed me up onto someone higher. Anyway the problem is, is that they have run out of capacity which according to them was good news for me and they are in the process of buying more and the problem will be fixed by the 5th of march (which i think is a load of crap) anyway if the problem is not fixed by then, then i will get out of the contract and will somehow find a way of avoiding the penalty fee since the fee is around 170 which i'd rather my mum not pay at all.

      Re: very slow speeds

Ask for your MAC code now, you don't have to use it and it is valid for 30 days so will be good when you do decide to leave (come the 5th March when nothing changes).
