SNR is already at the default level so unless you're running off an extension there's something wrong - try your test socket and repost stats...

This means you are not going to get any more speed the way things stand. Test socket stats please, using only the Sky supplied cables, no extensions.

OK. Taken it off the extension and plugged in to the master socket.

Connection Speed 4091 kbps 796 kbps
Line Attenuation 35 db 19 db
Noise Margin 11 db 12 db

Doesn't look too different to me, so are we stuck at 4mb on an upto 20mb plan? Sky checker says we can get 8?

That shows you have noise caused by your internal wiring. Fit a filtered faceplate and run the router from it.

Ours is an old-style solid front master socket and an i plate won't fit - is there anything we can do?

You can get an NTE5e master socket and fit it yourself, lots of others have done this on here, your not really surpose to do it but many have BT don't really seem bothered.

We've had Openreach out on behalf of Sky, theyve fitted a new NTE5 with iPlate.

Seems a lot better, we've put it back on the extension and its added 0.5mb, moving to a different socket in the house gives us about 7meg now.

Re: Upgrading to Unltd - what sort of speeds to expect?

I am surprised they fitted an iPlate and not a filtered faceplate, they probably have 1000s lying around to get rid of. Remove the front plate and plug into the socket you find behind it, take your stats, these will show what your line is really capable of. With your attenuation you should be looking at 12-14Mb.
