      Stranger and stranger

I was looking forward to starting my 3rd year with Sky BB in the New Year (Happy Xmas / New Year Skyusers) so far mostly trouble free when my luck started draining away. I cannot be sure as to when this issue first started but my guess is mid December? I noticed my router was rebooting to a lower sync speed over night after keeping a very close eye on its behaviour over the last 2 weeks it gets to around 5-10pm when the noise margin starts dropping within the space of 10mins it goes from 7db to ZERO ! and slowly comes back up to around 4-5db until daylight hours WTF ?
So far I have spoken to SKY Tier 2 support very nice but useless, they capped the line to 5 meg its supposed max at 2800km (I think thats what he said) and had it taken off ADSL2 both of which made no difference (so its back on ADSL2) .
Had a new Sky router delivered had a BT Iplate fitted changed the filters had a new phone fitted (Not relevant really) no difference at all. Now given the xmas tree lights etc I will give it another week but methinks this is a fault on the line more than interference SKY wont get anyone out and its Sky line rental so I cannot report a phone fault to BT directly.

I have also noticed that there is a hissing noise in the background when talking on the phone all the time ! old and new phone tried as well as old or new filters but still the same issue .

Next step is to get the line and BB swapped to 02 to get some better support if any exist with them in the new year.

Any ideas people as I dread swapping the line and BB over I suspect a long period of no service will follow...............

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 6524 kbps 775 kbps
Line Attenuation 45.5 db 28.8 db
Noise Margin 8.1 db 8.0 db

      Taken 8ish in the morning

      TIA

      Re: Stranger and stranger

There are quite a few having problems with the new Sky network and given the weather and it being the festive season with all the extra lights it is a difficult time to get things fixed. Give it a week or so until the lights come down then take it up again.

You don't seem to be capped at 5Mb by the way, you are syncing at 6524 kbps which is not too terrible for your attenuation. You would probably be better off with O2, if you can stand the trouble and expense of moving.

If you plug just a corded phone directly into the test socket, is this noise still apparent? If so, then you have a PSTN fault and need to report this to sky talk line rental and the bb problem should follow suit.
