ooo look at me im a grown man on a broadband forum with nearly 5,000 posts and i get pleasure out of winding people up.

caps ? my uncle get's 18mb minimum each day, throughout the day. i wouldn't be complaining, only bad thing is the cost, 30 odd pounds for upto 20mb

It was you who got abusive, I was only trying to point out that what you thought was a simple switch to fibre didn't actually exist, and you seemed so sure about it too, I didn't want to just let you down.

At least you have learnt something eh!

      rage99,

I think what's trying to be put across is that with a little bit of effort on your part (like searching this place) you could have found out quite a bit about broadband and how it works, rather than posting ludicrous stuff to a forum straight off and then having a go at folks.

As for line quality, via Sky, I get a sync of 18Mb minimum down and over 1Mb up all for 10. Fortunately, I live near my exchange. You obviously don't live near yours (unless you have real problems with your line) so that's what you get... if you have a problem with that then you have to decide if it's worth moving to get a better net connection.

Your original question: "so what do you think caused the increased speed/stability ?" Conditions fluctuate and so does line speed. Maybe it was an act of God?

my attenuation is 59db, therefore im lucky to get 3.9mb....
and i wouldnt need to move if i got a fibe connection, as it's guaranteed to be faster

It would be a lot quicker to move though, I doubt unless you just happen to be in the right place that you won't see fibre for another 5-10yrs.
