      PLEASE HELP. diagnose my broadband issues

      Ok, this is my first post. I have had Sky unlimited max since May 2009, and have had a terrible internet speed ever since, and it has taken me until now to try and sort this out. PLEASE HELP.

      I will post stats about my exchange and router etc and see what you can make of it.

      Sky Max can offer 20mb max speed. Back in May Sky estimated that my line could support a Max of 6.5mb. Furthermore on My Sky it says;

      Download Speed
      Your connection has been set to a download speed of up to
      0.4Mb (384Kb)

      Upload Speed
      Your connection has been set to an upload speed of up to
      0.6Mb (608Kb)

      This is my router status;

      From the attenuation you have either a very long line or a very poor line so first things first.... what happens if you only plug the router and a new/ fresh filter into your main socket/ test socket and remove everything else?

      Re: PLEASE HELP. diagnose my broadband issues

      Do as Paul said above first and foremost and re-post your stats whilst in your test socket (link below on how to do that) with nothing but a filter and the light grey sky supplied dsl cable (no extension cables).

      How to test your ADSL in the Master Socket

      A bit strange that you were quoted to get near to 6.5mb sync by sky with the readings from the samknows checker you pasted as you have a very long line. To truly see what your line is capable of, you'll need to call sky and your line code changed from adsltwo+ to g.dmt and then reconfigured to your max attainable speed for your line conditions.

      Re: PLEASE HELP. diagnose my broadband issues

      Firstly, your not having the same problem as Sparkz, he had good stats with a poor sync speed, you have very poor stats and a sync to match.

      It is to be hoped that you have a line problem somewhere or you are getting all you can

      You need to do the tests asked, post your router stats again but this time get them from the test socket (see the quick links on the left for instructions). Hopefully that will show a fault with your internal wiring that can be easily sorted and then you may see some improvement.

      On a bright note, I have seen problems like this end up with speeds of 10+mb so it is certainly worth a try

      Re: PLEASE HELP. diagnose my broadband issues

      If your attenuation is correct and it is not being increased by a line/wiring fault, you would probably do better on G.DMT, rather than ADSL2 which you are on at the moment.

      Re: PLEASE HELP. diagnose my broadband issues

      ok. i am not sure which is my master socket, as i have two chrome face plates in my apartment that look nothing like a normal white bt plate. they both have the access point in the middle of the plate and that is all, very little behind just a small amount of blue and white wiring.i am still confused, as i live in a block of apartments, do you think there may be master sockets elsewhere that are being split into the apartments?

      in the plate upstairs i have the router and a couple of filters using a wireless telephone line plug as to transmit my line wirlessley to my sky+ box in the adjacent corner.

      in the downstairs plate i have my telephone handset, filters, with an extension line running off to my second sky tv box.

      i originally had just a router, with a slow service, and most of the above appliances were fitted after the router. therefore i dont think these filters and the current setup is the problem.

      i have plugged the router directly into both sockets using only a filter and adsl cable and these are the stats, they are the same fo both access point.

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
      Connection Speed 384 kbps 554 kbps
      Line Attenuation 73.0 db 45.6 db
      Noise Margin 6.7 db 9.0 db

      i am trying to figure this out myself as bt have said they will charge me 127 for a call out, even though it says at their end that they can see a line fault. PLEASE HELP

      i am trying to sort this myself as bt have said any body coming out

      Re: PLEASE HELP. diagnose my broadband issues

      sounds like how my flat is wired. I didn't have a master of sorts, it seems the master is in the roof space (or wherever the line comes in) and then routed to my flat. Had BT out (for another issue) and got them to fit an NTE5 socket but it's technically not the 'master'
