      Strange Problem, Help please :)

      My PC won't load any websites intermittently. For example, i can be browsing for an hour and then all of a sudden, no sites will load. It then takes 5 minutes until i can get back to browsing. Other times i can be only browsing for 10 minutes until the connection hangs. I've rung Sky who claimed i was on ADSL2+ which is incorrect considering the distance from my house to the exchange (5km) so i was set back on GDMT(??).

      Apparently, this cleared up the errors being left so i thought it was done. But since the phonecall (2 hours ago) my internet has hung twice. The modem doesn't go amber and i can still talk to people on MSN and to my knowledge, my downloads don't stop.

      My PC is clean as a whistle in terms of infections/viruses (scan twice a week) so i'm lead to beleive its a DNS problem because whenever the internet "hangs", i can still use search features on Wikipedia.

      I'm on BBMax using a Wired Connection and i have a Netgear DG. The problem only arose this morning really and it's just getting annoying.

      I've just factory restored my modem to see if that clears it up (Fingers Crossed). I have also left my modem off for 10 minutes, completed Disk Cleanup, scanned for infections/spyware all to no avail.

      Any help would be appreciated

      Can you post your stats, to see if anything obvious is wrong there.

      Quite often PC slow down is caused by the security software. It is becoming so sophisticated that sometimes it slows the connection down by looking for things that are not there. What anti virus are you using? You could try changing it for a while to see if it makes any difference. Avast is a good basic free one, it will give you protection and not hog too many resources. Microsoft Security Essential is also highly rated among the free offerings. They actually seem to have got something right for a change.

      Also make sure you are not running 2 firewalls, apart from the router. If you have a 3rd pary one, switch off the Windows one.
