      Improving the connections?

I used to be able to sync to around 14.5MB until they recently upgraded their lines/servers/whatever.

I am wondering if there are ways I can improve the connection speed? any tips?

I am connected directly to the master/test socket.

I was on the sky max? I think now its sky unlimited (up to 16MB). I also live not too far away from the exchange

      Re: Improving the connections?

When you say you are connected to the master/test socket do you mean you have removed the faceplate and plugged into the socket behind it? This is the Test socket. When you are plugged in there all your other sockets should be dead.

Your upload speed seems to be a bit high, especially with such a low noise margin. I am not sure but this may be effecting your download speed. Do these remain the same when you reboot your router?

I havent rebooted the router as I am worried that the download speed may not be the same as it is now or get lower!
And yes, its connected to the test socket

      Re: Improving the connections?

With your good downstream margin, the sync speed will not be reduced, it may even be increased. Just make sure when you do it that your margin is above 7 dbs and you will not loose anything.

      Re: Improving the connections?

lol well its improved the download speed slightly....

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 12199 kbps 1117 kbps
Line Attenuation 35.0 db 19.4 db
Noise Margin 7.2 db 7.1 db

Does anyone know if the unlimited package should be "up to" 16MB or 20MB?
I know I wouldnt get the max speed obviously.
How come I was able to get 14.5MB a few months ago?

Any other ways of improving the download speed?

      Re: Improving the connections?

It is upto 20mb but that wont matter to you anyway as you won't get it.

Chances are you have now been moved to Sky's SVBN equipment, many have seen a bit of a reduction in speed when this has happened. I assume you have your line rental with Sky.

so really what you are saying is that it would have been better to stay with BT for the line rental?
