When you select your SSID and press Security, what happens? You should be able to select WPA, pur your 8 letter key in and connect with no problems. Remember the key must be typed in caps.

What router do you have? Check on the sticker and confirm whether it's a sagem router. If so, change the channel on the router from auto to another channel (I believe there's a tutorial on how to do this somewhere on the site) and try reconnecting hitting shift before each individual letter of the network key found on that same sticker.

Did you happen to change the router password to something other than the default? I know I changed my immediately after I set it up to something far more difficult. If you did and forgot it, you're going to have to reset your router back to defaults.

Hi no I didnt change the password - ive tried everything but still get same message - this is really driving me nuts - im reluctant to change anything with the router etc as have 4 wireless laptops connected and a xbox with an ethernet - could this be the problem ?

Re: Ipod touch - wifi connection

Go into the wireless settings of the router and use the drop down box opposite 'Mode:' to change from 'Auto 108mbps' to 'g only'. While you are there check that the encryption key is WPA and is the same as that shown on the label. If it does happen to be WEP, which it wont be unless someone has changed it, make a note of the key being used and enter this into your iPod.

Changing to 'g only' will make no difference to your other machines unless you actually have 108mbps adapters on the laptops, which is unlikely.

I take it you have double checked you are putting your IPhone keyboard into caps before each letter by using the shift button? The double tap of the shift does not always work so shift before each letter to be sure.
