If the sync light is not going amber then you are not loosing sync with the exchange anymore and this may not have been the only problem.

Are you connecting via wireless? if so, try changing the router channel number or if you can, use a wire and see if that helps.

Also, post your router logs and check the next time it drops if you can still access the router settings page using 192.168.0.1, if you cannot, then you are loosing the connection from the PC to the router.

Try using a corded phone into the test socket and press one number, listen, you should hear nothing but a faint humm, no cracks pops etc.

If you do, you need to ring whoever you pay your line rental to and report a line fault, hopefully this is still BT.

I sstill think you have an internal issue there, check all the cables etc.

It would be quite difficult for me to check all the internal cables so I think I will require a technician. However, I did inspect the main faceplate and a blue wire (1 of the 3 red, green and blue wires attached to this socket) was loose. I have re-attached this wire, however this appears to have had no influence on the reliability of the connection. Can you recommend any other "lay-men" inspections?

If you are using the test socket then none of the other wires should matter at the moment. You should only have wires connected to terminals 2 & 5, if you have any in terminal 3 then either pull them out or cut them off, you don't need them.

I can only suggest you do the wiggle test, get connected and then wiggle the wires in the back of the router and also in the Test socket, to see if this causes a problem, if it does then you can investigate it further.

The crackles are a fault, yuo can ring your line provider and ask then to arrange for a call due to the crackles on the voice line, do not mention broadband, this will just confuse matters.

Hi as Smithy99 say`s you do need to
ring your line provider and ask then to arrange for a call due to the crackles on the voice line
      also
Everyday, for the past 3 months, my internet connection drops randomly, sometimes every 30 minutes, sometimes every 5. This occurs most frequently from 6pm to 12pm. Sometimes the internet light turns orange. Sometimes it does not. Sometimes the wireless light turns off, sometimes it stays. The whole occurrence is very random. Sometimes the problem is solved by rebooting or power-cycling the router, sometimes it cannot be resumed for hours.
have a look at the link I have had similar problems in the past where I was loosing connections because of the connect throttling and RAMBo was cutting in. But as you are having more than one problem if you do as Smithy99 suggest first
