      Help with speed please

Hello, my sky internet is so slow! It takes ages to load up webpages, can't even play my ps3 online without it lagging horribly, can't download new updates because it's so slow.
I still get like 2 MBPS but for some reason its incredibly slow! my ping is ridiculous and to be honest I really am considering cancelling the lot, I never had these problems with orange and the only reason I changed over was because they were increasing there service charges.
Now i'm gonna give you guys a chance to fix it, seeing as you are very helpful

I have sky base broadband, and I was considering upgrading to sky medium, however I am deeply unimpressed with the shoddy service. I don't want to phone sky because everytime I do, I either get some annoying foreigner (no offence intended) who insists nothing is wrong, or get put on hold for hours and transferred between different departments claiming it is not there problem and is another department.
Like I said, I would have been able to tolerate the bad speeds if I was able to play my PS3 online, which I can't because it lags so horrible that it's unplayable. None of my friends online on there ps3s have this problem. They get to play fantasticly so it's not the region I am in or the games fault (which my friends also play, without problems). The game I am playing is MODERN WARFARE 2 BTW, which I have portforwarded and I have even put my PS3 in a DMZ. Also, I never had these problems with my old isp, so It cant be line noise or interference.
      Heres a ping test: http://www.pingtest.net/result/6153296.png
      Heres a speed test: http://www.speedtest.net/result/660888582.png

Please advise, wether on moving to a different isp or if there is something we can do to fix it.

      Re: Sky BroadBand absolutely rubbish!

As you are on the Bridge of Allan exchange I don't think you are on Sky LLU, you are on Connect. Unless BofA has been very recently upgraded. It is not very wise putting your phone number on view, take it out and put in ESBAL, which is your exchange code.

First thing we need is your stats, taken from your normal position and from the Test socket. Post these and we will see what we can do.
How to get your router statistics
How to test your ADSL in the Master Socket

When you take these use only the supplied cables, do not use a phone extension.

      Re: Help with speed please

That confirms you are on Connect, which is subject severe throttling. Have a look at this thread and the many others complaining about Connect.
(Unofficial) FAQ - Sky Connect Users

You are syncing at the maximum for your connection so the Test socket results do not really matter. Do a speed test now on the official BT Performance tester, you will probably find you get 6-7Mbs. After 5pm you will be lucky to get a tenth of that. You will find instructions on using the speed tester in the link above.

So, based on my understanding of that link you posted, if I upgrade to sky mid, I shall no longer have these problems?

      Re: Help with speed please

You cannot upgrade to Mid as that is not available in your exchange (you have no LLU providers), you can only leave Sky for a better managed BT network

As Smithy says, or you could move into Stirling

I have an idea that you may have been mis-led when you joined Sky. Many have been given the impression they would be going on an LLU package, Base, Everyday or Unlimited and have been put on Connect as they were not on a Sky enabled exchange. Check in your Account details on your MySky page and see what you are being charged for and how much. If you are paying the full whack you would be better off with another ISP who does not throttle so much.

      Re: Help with speed please

Ok, I'm going to check what i'm paying for in MySky, however I still have a years contract left, and i'm not sure if i'll be able to change isp...I only want to change ISP I want to keep the tv and line rental. Would this be possible as this 'communal' internet really, really sucks.

      Re: Help with speed please

You can lose the adsl without losing the tv etc. Connect isn't fit for purpose for many people and moving to a new ISP and citing the issues you are having when Sky argue with you is the only way to get an improvement.

      Re: Help with speed please

Ah ok, thanks to everyone for giving me this information, it has been very helpful. Is there any ISP's you would suggest? For under 20 per month? Without a download limit preferably, but I guess 40gb would do.
