      Re-grade to 10Mb ordered on 6 Dec 09

      Hi all,

I upgrade from Base to Everyday broadband on 6 Dec 09 and it is showing as complete under the My Sky section of the Sky website. However the router is still showing 2Mb download and 0.4Mb upload. I have power cycleded the router and still it is the same.

I tried to call Sky support this morning but after 50 mins of waiting to answer I gave up. I tried to email them to via My Sky but the "Service was unavailable".

      Any suggestions would be apreciated.

      Many thanks,
      Jack

Those stats show that you have alot of noise on the line, connect to the test socket and post the stats from there, link below with details on how to get the stats in my sig.
You are looking for an increase in the noise margin, if it increases then you would benifit from a filtered faceplate to get the stats all the time. you should be getting the full 10Mb with that attenuation.

Do you pay phone rental to Sky? If so you will be on the SVBN, where they are having difficulties upgrading packages. You have not been upgraded yet or your upload speed would have changed. As Andy says, plug into your test socket as your noise margin does not look too good.

      Re: Re-grade to 10Mb ordered on 6 Dec 09

Thanks guys, yes about two months ago we started paying phone line rental to Sky.

This is the stats with it plugged in to the Master socket but on the normal outer plate.

Port Status TxPkts RxPkts Collisions Tx B/s Rx B/s Up Time
      WAN PPPoA 1030 1087 0 0 0 0:04:43
      LAN 135 0 0 0 0 0:05:38
      WLAN 4338 4156 0 0 0 0:05:13
      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 2043 kbps 412 kbps
Line Attenuation 28.5 db 13.8 db
Noise Margin 8.8 db 25.6 db

And these are the stats with it plugged directly in to the test socket but still using a filter - I do not have a phone socket to RJ11 cable.

Port Status TxPkts RxPkts Collisions Tx B/s Rx B/s Up Time
      WAN PPPoA 72 52 0 0 0 0:01:40
      LAN 135 0 0 0 0 0:09:26
      WLAN 9103 8773 0 0 0 0:09:01
      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 2043 kbps 412 kbps
Line Attenuation 28.5 db 13.8 db
Noise Margin 11.9 db 25.8 db

So, yes looks like the line has not been upgraded. Is this something that physically has to be done at the exchange or is it just a setting via their systems?

Isitme, do you have a source on the problems upgrading SVBN lines - I am keen to see how long it has been going on or whether there is a solution.

Also, what is a good Noise margin to have?

It looks like your external line has a fault. Is there any noise on your voice line. Plug a corded phone into the test socket dial 1 digit and listen. You should hear only a very faint hiss at most.

Thanks - I will get hold of a corded phone and test it.
Also, should I be using the ADSL filter on the test socket?
